I'd like his songs better if they didn't all sound like "carnival music" with that goofy calliope or whatever it is in the rhythm backline of most of his tunes.

As for his politics, I'll defer to the title of Laura Ingraham's book......

The Rising isn't political. Its about the events of that day and how they affected people personally. If you can't write music about that then whats the point in art?

Thats cool bro. He does have greatest hits and live compilations. I'm just one of those guys who doesnt really go for singles. I'm very much an album kinda guy.

Best of luck!

The first time I heard Born to Run I immediately went out and bought that, Greetings From Ashbury Park and The Wild,The Innocent And The E Street Shuffle after these albums his music just didn't do it for me any more so I didn't buy any more of his albums after that. His latest album though is a lot better than the stuff he has been putting out for years and I may be tempted to buy it.I was really impressed with the song Girls In Their Summer Clothes.

Floyd, my little brother,

You need to go back and listen to Born in the USA again. This isn't a "America is the best" song. It's a protest song about a lot of things the Boss feels are wrong with America.

This is one of the songs the guys above are talking about when they say they don't like Springsteen for his politics:

Born down in a dead man's town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
'Til you spend half your life just covering up now

Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

Listen to and understand the words, not just the chorus...

good call rickyD.

i like the song myself.
ever notice how most of your better singers/musicians throw in some political stuff in some of their tunes somewhere?
sometimes its sneaky and ya gotta look for it.

Then you didn't get the song at all Floyd bro. It's anything BUT a pro-America song. It is in fact a protest song and very hard hitting.

Radio Nowhere is my phone ringtone btw guys.

way cool,

Born in the USA is prolly one of the most misinterpreted songs ever recorded.

The song is actually about a Vietnam Vet that comes back from the war and can't find a job in his hometown (which is beginning to crumble and decay - certainly not the American dream, or what a war veteran is supposed to return to after fighting for his country. Especially if you're "Born in the USA."...)

The lyrics are actually very bleak.

Most folks are like Floyd - they focus on the words of the chorus "Born in the USA" and totally miss the lyrics of the song and the meaning behind them.

Unlike a lot here, I very much appreciate the Boss for what he does, and I appreciate his politics and the fact that he questions what his country, America, is doing and has become...

Questioning and disagreeing with your country doesn't make you against it or a traitor - I much prefer those who question and disagree than those who blindly follow...

By the way - I'm a retired Lt Col w/ 23 years of service in the US Air Force and a veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan, and I too question a lot of what our country is doing and has become. I just can't put it into words as well as the Boss can...
