Hmmm! thats just a tagline and an expression of great importance. I don't believe in the Greek Gods. What I am trying to say is that why is it so damn popular? Come share ur views.

Esp. in a band I think its the most popular all over the world. Everyones talking about the lead guitarist not the keyboardist, less likely the bassist unless u can do Billy Sheehan stuff and maybe sometimes the drummer.

Why is this so? technical difficulties or the soul and magical expression of string instruments? Well compared to electronic instruments even with greater capacity to synthesize sound the Guitar still wins the vote.

The guitar has a magnificient outlook and feel an object of art. On a raw setting the guitar can produce more sounds than the rest. Great difference in control between the pitch wheel and string bends or whammy stunts. The fluid legatos and taps lighter than electronic keys, the ferocious alternate picking, dazzling sweeps and harmonics scream that commands attention.

What are your reasons to prefer the guitar?

Quite simply the guitar is the instrument that makes it easiest to convey what's in my heart and soul.

In this opinion, the guitar "matured" at the right time to be applicable to use by many different cultures, across the world.

While stringed instruments have been common since time immemorial, the lyre, harp, lute, shamisen, bouzouki, mandolin, sitar, oud...

...the guitar in its numerous modern formats provides a truly amazing combination of flexibility, adaptation, musical sounds, styles and portability.

Combine that with being as some sage said, the easiest instrument to play poorly and the most difficult to play well...

and the portability, relatively low price, vast array of music, instruments and accessories...

...and let us not forget marketing.

I think anyone can express themselves through any instrument as much as you can guitar. Guitar most likely appeals to most people as its more in the public eye than most and the lead guitarist also tends to have this thing of competing with the lead singer.
