Truly sad story Guitslinger and yes it's all too common to read about this sort of thing going on today, only the other day I read about some teenage girl being victomised by a mob, the girl had developed a form of cancer which had taken her eyesight, eventually after taking so much she plucked up the courage to go to the principal of the school to ask if she could address everyone at school assembly, after she had finished the whole assembly barr the mob stood and cheered her, only the mob were left sitting, red faced and ashamed, and everyone knew who they were, she was never bothered by them again just a pity she couldn't see their faces, maybe other schools should do likewise, instead of sweeping these things under the carpet as if to say this sort of thing doesn't happen at this school

While I am sure some are better than others, most don't actually enforce the zero tolerance policies that are on the books.

Zero tolerance is a bunch of bull because common sense is disregarded. If a kid has a nail clipper (or whatever) in their backpack, he/she gets suspended. But, a bully who injures other students normally isn't punished due to protection under laws concerning disabilities, since the poor little criminal is obviously disabled!

I'm' sorry to hear this, but I agree that it's becoming a very widespread problem. Not just the physical aspect of it, but also cyber-bullying. It seems that every week I'm hearing of another case of some type of bullying and at first I thought it was just more heavily media coverage, but your post and current events now make me believe that it's our society and the social networking, along with people of all ages that just don't care about their fellow human beings.

I completely agree with you on this. The online gaming service Xbox LIVE is an example of cyber- bullying as well. People are very different now a days.

As a youngster and teenager, I was bullied because I dared to be different. By different, I mean I enjoyed stuff like Comic Books and drawing, which I got quite good at, and to this day, still do on occasion, and my love of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and playing Guitar. Because of that, I was seen as a outsider /Nerd, and was bullied and insulted, most often by the "Jocks" in school. In my Junior year, I decided to join the Soccer team and suddenly, I was socially accepted by the "jocks' which made me sick to my stomach. Even though I was now playing Soccer, I still had the same interests and nothing else about me had changed, but yet, I was now "Cool"! To this day, I never forgot that, and it disgusts me to think of the mentality of some people who feel that they have to judge or chastize those who are different from the norm. We are all human beings and should not be judging nor humiliating those who we feel are different or make us feel insecure about our own selves. I have zero tolerance for bullies of any sort, whether they be at school, in authority, or in the media.

i actually got called a f** today because i dont like sports... now of course this was met with a torrent of unrepeatable things from my own mouth, but still, the idea that someone is inferior because they are different (in this case not liking sports) is asinine. in fact, i would go as far as saying that the "cool" kids are the inferior ones as they seem to have some serious issues thinking for themselves

In Junior High School I was in the Honors section. Two other students in my section were borderline bullies; both a lot bigger than me. One of them kept taunting me while we were in the gym playing whiffle ball one day. He was the catcher, and I was at bat. After a while the taunting got to me, and I turned around and swung that whiffle ball bat right into his stomach. I didn't injure him at all; it was just a shock to him that I retaliated. He didn't mess with me after that.

Violent bullies only react to violence... talking about consequences does no good. Unfortunately, the laws protect them. In my case, I had been taunted, smacked in the head, and grabbed by the throat. But, by hitting him with that bat I would have been the guilty one under the law. It seems that justice, fairness, and common sense are missing in some of our laws.

I usually don't watch extreme fighting on TV,but a favorite show was "Bully Beatdown",where someone who was bullying people got the challenge to fight a real MMA fighter and most of the time got beaten to a pulp.
The people who were being bullied were there to watch and after the bully got his azz kicked he usually apologized and found out what it was like to be humiliated.
I'm really sorry to hear about the young man who killed himself,we all lose something when that happens.
