Ok What do u ppl think ? sometimes we get the guitars with nicks and chips on the body and on the neck under the finish, meaning imperfect worksmanship.

It could be anywhere on the body or where theres contour and usually on the edges and sides of the necks probably overshaved by the jack planes or damaged by tools being dropped on the guitar before the finish.

I am not talking about very obvious damages, it could be hardly noticeable at first sight when u look at the whole guitar but the ones visible when u gazed on it inch by inch. So I discovered some guitars even American made ones have these flaws. This could happen on any other guitar brands I've seen that also. Are you people bothered by these sort of damages? Will the guitar depreciate in value from manufacturers to dealers and even to end users?

Ok this is another example the alignment of the nut and the bridge. Mostly the span of the springs would be nearer to the end of the 1st fret and slightly away from the end of the last fret. Sometimes u get it the other way round with the higher E string esp. the 24 frets ones.

Do we consider the above manufacturing defects? or there just aren't any specific guidelines pertaining the above matter?

The quality control people in most guitar making facilities(that are any good at all)will pick up on imperfections in guitars and will mark them as seconds or send them back for adjustment. My daughter worked at the Gibson plant in Mt. Pearl NL.(since shut down)and they had zero tolerence for imperfections that were sprayed over and the offending guitars were destroyed and not even allowed to be purchased by workers at a reduced price such was the quality control of that particular plant.

I was about to go to bed when I got ur reply, too interesting for met to let go I might forget what to say later. However I wd appreciate it if u tackle my question specifically I am very interested to find out.

Anyway generally Gosh! to Gibsons QC is Fender that strict to? I'd love great QC but not selling to staff at lower price hmmm that bad huh! This what I would do, I am very picky indeed about imperfection but I'll try to salvage it 1st like touching up with wood fillers, lacquers or hardeners of use metal cement on metal parts if possible.

I am from South East Asia our imported Gibsons are mighty expensive and they are absolute beauties, flawless. In a way I am not surprised coz Gibsons like the Les Paul have very classy outlook that deserves perfection so to speak. Well in reality nothing of this earth is absolutely perfect but u know what I mean.

In my personal observation the Strat however, like its versatility in use are just as versatile in camouflage. If u have dings on a Gibson it wd look worse than if u got that on the Strat. Some ppl wd say they won't be bothered the guitar will have dings sooner or later but we wouldn't want the craftsman to be complacent wd we? Oh yeah I can't imagine people bidding for celebrities guitar with very obvious damages at killer prices crazy! Hey thanks for the reply. Yawns! :)

If I come across a guitar with imperfections in a store there's no way I'd pay full retail as imperfections greatly affect the retail and resale value. An imperfect instrument is a second rate instrument and should never be sold at full retail.

I feel slight imperfections inthe finish can give a guitar character. As long as it is not damage.

Mind telling which part of the world are you?

I wd appreciate it if u cd tackle my questions above specifically like string span to the end of the frets or over shaved edges, nicks and chips generally do ppl consider those manufacturing defects or if they are minor and not very noticeable unless u gazed inch by inch? Are those considered acceptable by the international community?

And what do u exactly mean by not damaged?

I am onlt talking about imperfections in the guitars finish. Not the wood or hardware. A nick in the wood or frets or nut is not acceptable. Mechanically everything must be correct. I am in the U.S.

So long as it doesn't affect playability, I honestly couldn't care less if there are finish imperfections. Of course I'm not going to complain if the shop wants to knock a couple bucks off the price because of it though 8)

I don't like alot of space between the body and pickup on any bass guitar.

A big neck pocket gap...um no.

I'd rather not be able to tell how many pieces of wood the thing is made of, either...at least in the direct light.

Won't buy it if the frets cut my hand or fingers.

If the neck takes a dive while wearing a strap standing up...not into that.

If the neck has more relief than I'd like, even though it could be remedied, I feel it's a bad start...

There is no excuse for any of this.

Road Worn, a premium price for a used instrument or would that particular instrument be considered new? Ridiculously priced instruments owned and sometimes abused by former "celebrity" players. So much for, "Bothered By Imperfect Finish & Woodwork".
