Well, I just finished a 6 1/2 day stay at my local hospital. Developed a nasty bacterial infection (cellulitis, they called it) in my lower left leg. Swelled up to twice normal size, turned bright red, and hot.

IV antibiotics non-stop.
Leg feels better, doesn't look much better.

God, it feels good to be home.

Ah TC man do I feel for you.

My daughter had the same in her left arm, Apr 09. A fortnight in hospital for her and her mum. She'd only just passed her first birthday, learning to walk and as they do, kept falling over. One day she started screaming and didn't stop.
When we eventually got her seen to, they were clueless too, she couldn't tell em what was wrong. To make matters worse we had all kinds of social workers asking us questions making sure we hadn't hurt her. :?

When they finally did diagnose the problem, it was all red lights flashing and people running mad. It's a infection similar to that flesh eating thing that came to light in the 90's.
She, like you is all sorted now and going strong. They put Boo on antibiotics too. I think it's the standard treatment for it. It usually comes from insect bites, apparently. We didn't see any on her around the area.

Good to hear you're well mate. Been wondering where and how you were.

Sounds like MRSA. Very nasty stuff.

Follow your doctors' orders.

Was my first thought as well. Ditto on the nasty. My wife developed one after a neurosurgery and she required a re-entry/debridement procedure nearly a year after the first. Kept me busy at home pushing IV meds every evening on top of the oral meds she was taking. Now you know why the profession is down on the unnecessary use of antibiotics. Hope that's the last of it for you TC. You've had your portion for sure. We remember this time of year.

Glad to hear that you're out of the woods T.C. some of these infections can be very painful and downright dangerous if not treated with a strong dose of I.V. antibiotics-take care.

Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes. Niki, if your little one went through this, good God, I feel for her.

Thanks again.

Doc,
First of all, thanks for your kind words - and for remembering. I certainly would never have planned to spend the anniversary of the tragedy alone in the hospital - but we play the cards we are dealt some times.

This conditon can be caused by either strep or staph, and since they can't culture it until it becomes septic they shotgun it. So they treated me for both and threw some vancomycin in for the MRSA possibility as well.

But this leg has a history and now they think there might be a possibility of osteomyelitis as well. I don't even want to think about that one.....

Interesting. There are both methicillin resistant and vancomycin resistant staph aureus organisms.

Glad to hear that you are OK TC! IV antibiotics are the only and best treatment for cellulitis. Rest up and stay well Bro.
