:) Hi everyone do your fingers look good on the fretboard? Are you bothered by this issue. I need to know coz I am :D even untill now. I think its a bit crazy for me to feel this way even crazier if tell u the details :D

Have u noticed some fingers look very neat on the fretboard even in motion, the fingers seem closer together and even when doing stretches only what needs to stretch moves and the others stay put. In short on the outook very much ordinary human hand.

On the other hand you have fingers that look very far apart even when they are not in stretch. You see a spider like legs on the fretboard :D

I think this have somehting to do with the size of ur hand. Well rationally this shouldn't be an issue if u can put across what u want to play, but for me I need my fingers to look good on the fretboard when still (chords) or in play (licks) hehehe! weird? I dunno anyone feels the same way? gosh this is embarassing. The worse part is since I've started playing I never could get rid of this need and trying to keep my fingers the way I wan't has slowed me down in many ways in terms of progress, lucky me I am jsut a hobbyist hehe! Check out this detail when I play 1,2 & 4 pattern I would try to manage my third finger in line with my second I wouldn't wan't it to pull back too behind the second. Weird? normal? hahaha! The Strat type neck helps me a bit by the way

So for those who are concerned, do u have any exercises for your fingers to look good? Care to share? hehe! Talking bout fingering exercise I separate physical exercise from musical exercise even though musical exercise does improve dexterity BUT I would wan't to keep A physical exercise that conditions the fingers, builds strength and restores the natural mechanics of ur hand so that they will look natural AND would leave the dexterity part doing musical exercise hoho!

I really don't care. I have long skinny fingers and know it looks a little wierd when i play, but the thing is I can play. The ability to play is much more important.
When it boils down to it, would you rather have good looking fingers/hands that can't do anything, or look a little wierd bit be able to make good music.

Just my humble opinion

I have the opposite problem. My hands are so beautiful that when I play people often ask me to play that again because they did not hear it. They where focused on my beautiful hands.

I mean "were"

People, however, are not impressed with my spelling.

Is it more important to "Look Mah-velous" , or to be able to play you (*) off? Ah, the age old form vs substance debate.
If a man is alone and talking to himself in the woods, is he still wrong :P

I never thought about it, and I don't think it matters.

If you ever get a chance, look at Willie Nelson's hands--they look nothing like a guitarist's hands (gnarled, thick, short fingers, wide workingman's hands)...but he is one of the most underrated guitarists I've ever seen play.

Everybody thinks of him as a country player, but he's really a jazzbo at heart. Listen to him play "Crazy" or "Nightlife" or most of his "Phases and Stages" album, or even his more recent albums like "Teatro" and "Across the Borderline".

He's a jazzer stuck in a truck-driver's body.

Try to focus on your playing rather than anything else. If I asked my wife "do my hands look pretty doing this" she might try the old "does my bum look big in this" trick in return :)
