I thought I would start a new topic for this fall heading into winter.

POST your guitar project, (rebuild, refinish, assemble). From start to finish.

Yesterday, I only had two. But today I could not pass up this buy to make it "Three" projects, each fairly extensive.

Today I walked into Guitar Center and could not pass up this one.
I spied on a stand on the counter a Squier Precision Bass.
No strings, a very ugly spray-painted finish orange with black stripes "GAG"
However.. Price $9.00. It will be completely stripped to bare-wood and depending upon the grain configuration (alder body) either a clear or stained finish. Neck is rosewood fingerboard, maple neck, nice figuring on the fingerboard. Anyhow, new tuners, bridge, pups work but we'll see.

Other projects are a J.B. Player strat copy with Carvin Pups and a travel guitar with humbuckers (full finish stripping ) additional abalone inlay on finger board.

I will post Photo's tomorrow after I put them all together to Photograph

Mine is either a double bound Tele build in Charcoal Frost or Sonic Blue or a regular Tele build in Vintage White or Vintage Blonde. Maybe one with a humbucker/mini bucker in the neck

My summer project is overflowing into the fall. 2004 mim strat is being refinished, rewired, new bridge, neck leveled crowned and polished. As well as other stuff. I'm about 3/4 the way through and have pics before and after that I will post when I'm done. I'm polishing it for the clear coat now and just ordered most of what I need to finish it today.

I have a mid 90's Squier Musicmaster bass, in white that's turned to cream color. I would love to strip the body, make it glossy white for a bass color, and than swirl it with blues and a little red.

That would be great but don't know if I have the confidence in myself to do it and make it come out nice. Getting the clear coat right is a big worry of mine. Found some great tutorials on Youtube etc but who knows?

I have a few on the go for this winter.

First off I'll finish the Big Hairy Strat.

Image

Probably going to make a more traditional mahogany Strat after that one with out all the mistakes.

While thats happening, I'm going to learn a bit more about how amps works so I can build a Big Hairy Amp to go with it. I want to make a few pedals too.

I've also got enough bits for another partscaster that can be put together for a quick build fix.

Lots to keep me busy through the winter! :D

WI KISSfan, I will be stripping the squier-bass using Franmar's Soy-Gel.
it is a stripper made from soy beans, water soluble, biodegradable, nontoxic, pleasant soy odor, environmentally inert.
Brushes on, bubbles the finish lifting it from the wood, easily scrapes right off, final wipe off with a damp sponge, then let dry and sand. ( however it is expensive

For finish I'll be using Polycrylic, also water based.

I've used both extensively in refenishing windows and oak doors in home remoddeling renovations.

I've got two planned. 1st is a MIM Strat that somebody"reliced". I found it in a pawn shop for $200. I'm gonna un-relic it. It's Arctic White, but since I already have a nice Arctic White Strat, this one will probably be a different color.

2nd is an Esquire build project. I've already got the body and a few other goodies.

Then down the road comes a double-bound, thinline Tele... 8)

LP copy, mahogany with Quilted top and some EMG designed things

Dont know how long it will take but im probably going to strip it down and rebuild everything...Maybe even make a top cut away as it has an awful looking top...

It would require moving the control switch too so it would be a sod of a job really... its all stuff to try out at least :)

Hi 53magnatone: NINE DOLLARS??? Hot damn: we've all said things like, "You'd have to pay me to take that off your hands." OK, they weren't quite paying you - but it's as close as makes no difference. How could you say no? You couldn't.

And you know what we're going to say next. Pictures please! :D

I have at least three projects on the backburner for coming months. Want a sneak preview? This:

And this:

And this:

Or to be more precise: the first picture shows some ash I felled and planked, and which has now been seasoning for enough years to be ready to play with. The second is some reclaimed iroko, sawn into a piece for a neck and a larger lump from which to make a two-piece body. And the third - well, there's all sorts of fun to be had with bone. Can I find a way to raise the bar on that...?

But don't hold your breath for any of that - you'd suffocate. I'm a slow worker...

Cheers - C
