i am building a bass body and i am wondering how difficult and expensive it would be to build a naple neck to go with it. i looked at warmoth and it costs $180 tobuild one on there. i dont have much wood working experience.

Howdy!

Oooh! Are you building the body from a blank?

Necks are tricky things to get right. I've built a few guitar bodies but haven't had a go at a neck yet.

Forum user Ceri made a neck form scratch in his last build thread. I recommend having a look at that to get an idea of whats involved. He starts building about page 65 of this truly epic thread! Heres the link.

How to build a neck by Ceri

Let us know how you get on. :D

Andy

Edit: As you can see, its not a bass neck but you get the idea..

Hi championguitar: my ears are burning after the posts above...

Here to help if you have any specific questions.

I think building necks is not too difficult, but I wouldn't want to do it without some specialist tools (though you could). The initial outlay on those tools might make Warmoth's necks seem a lot more reasonable if you only ever plan to build one neck. On the other hand, once you've done it the first time you kinda can't help doing it again - and again. So those tools will probably repay you in time...

Good luck - C
