I've got a facebook account. I used it to reconnect with some family members. I refuse to get obsessed with it though and will not play any games on it. As a matter of fact, I won't play any computer games, I used to be obsessed with gaming, but I found it to be a collossal waste of time.

Facebook is a great tool if used properly. I like seeing what everyone is up to at a glance. I can chime in or just lurk if I want to.

My wife made one for me, I rarely see it, took me three years to put a profile picture on it.

More and announce to me.

But my HOG club now has one and we use it to talk about rides and events.

I love Facebook. Because of Facebook, I've been able to reconnect with old classmates from High School that I've haven't seen or spoken to in over 33 years. I've also gotten in touch with some of my old shipmates from my Navy days as well.

Me too. I've reconnected with lots of dear old high school friends from nearly 30 years ago, including one I thought was dead. I think it's a great resource.

Anyone who claims Facebook has ruined his life has only himself to blame. You control what goes on there and who can see it. Be smart, and you'll be fine. 8)

But what if you used Facebook to promote the Nevin signature series guitar, think of all your fans you could reach....

I'm on there too and keep in touch with a lot of the fender.com guys there.
Its great for the band and the fact I'm in Ireland with most of my family in USA, Scotland, England and Dubai. Keeps everyone in touch, especially when your trying to find your AWOL guitarist! lol

Plus i'm in contact with many a pro who are all great at being patient and giving me advice. I like it.

I have it, and originally because I was selling some gear and the prospective buyer said she "only communicated through Facebook because she didn't have time to check email, voice messages, etc." I'd have said TS ordinarily, but we were talking about a fairly expensive bass rig and I didn't want to lose the sale just for being old fashioned.

Since then, I have reconnected with a couple old friends and I do occasionally participate in a couple of groups. Probably spend under an hour a week on it though. As with the ultimate result of my pending sale ... I've found that most of the junk on social networks isn't worth much of my time and rarely amounts to much.

i'm 18 and i hate, HATE facebook, myspace, twitter, all that crap. (no offense to those who do use it of course) i prefer to stay in contact with my friends through email and texting.

i don't know, maybe it's just because i'm a non-conformist. i can't really help it, but i can't bring myself to like things or take part in things that millions of other people do. :?

18, and you have your head out already, good for you sir.

You say your a non-conformist, and I say you are something far more dangerous these days.

You believe you are an individual.

Good for you.

Thats like saying those who use it aren't individuals.

Like I said before its great for my band and I'm sure as $@!& not going to be texting my family in Dubai and New York from Ireland.

It keeps my very spread out family together, sharing baby pics etc. And for my bands it's brilliant.

As I also said before I'm in touch with many a pro via Facebook including Izzy Stradlin, Greg Koch, Ricky Warwick, Donnie Vie, Larry DiMarzio, Rick Richards, Ginger Baker, Ron Thal, DJ Ashba, Steven Adler.............I could go on. Each of those guys takes time to give me advice and tips on my music.

Try doing that with texts.

j_rockr-the fact that millions use it is quite a good reason to make use of it too.Since I've been on Facebook I've been able to trace my family tree back to the 16th century in Dorset and even found that a forebear of mine was a pirate that sailed with Blackbeard and was hanged for piracy.I've also met up with friends I haven't seen for many decades and people from all corners of the earth who share common ancestors from the Devon/Cornwall/Dorset area of England. The whole thing has been a huge educational experience for me.

I am on FaceBook more than I am on here however I recently removed a whole bunch of info and pictures from my FB account after reading the fine print. Any group you join, any link you "Like" and any application/game that you use has full access to your data. You give them access to it when you click "Allow".

Word to the wise ...
