My friends are band geeks and one of them just simply plays bass. Oddly enough though, only one of my band friends even plays with us, and he plays drums when we jam.

Then there's our bass player. He can play a mean bass, but he sure don't know anything about music (things like measures, flats, sharps, etc.).

But nevertheless, if you just have a few close friends that can play an instrument, you've got it made. :D

I also look for fellow musicians who can play better than I can because I am not the type of guitarist to have an ego. You can learn something from everybody.

I've been playing for almost 40 years - my 11 year old has been playing for about 2... So I always have someone around who is pretty much at my level. Untill he passes me up anyway :) Nuff said?

thats probably one of the best way to learn. If you find someone into a different style to you, you get to learn improv better and learn new stuff from another genre :)
I've always found in bands no matter what level the other guitarist is you can still learn off each other. :)

What I run into sometimes are guys that give you a list of the first 15 or so audition cover songs with the later suprise of those being the only songs they know themselves. Then I find out there's a four hour show booked for the next week. I guess they think the gig is gonna come together just like the movies.

Rehearsal, backed by homework is good.

Well I really can't play at all. Sure, strum a few tunes but I'm still trying to get my fingers to move without having to look at the sheet.

There are those moments I'd like to have someone else to play with just to hear 2 guitars play off each other but I'm not sure how to go about doing that.
