ok so i am going to start playing bass in my churches youth band and i am being given a bass to start playing on because i really dont have any money to buy my own right now. its a red samick that looks like a p bass copy. does any1 know anything about the model or about it?

That's pretty nice of your church.

Samick is a little vague about model years. They request you send a photo. Actually, if the company logo is inlaid in cursive on the headstock...it's made in California according to company history. Check ebay for research. Some older Samicks came with pickups that were mysteriously of quality. Looked like Seymours. The new line comes with Duncan Designed. What a coincidence.

The company gets a bad rap but I just picked one up with a quartersawn rock maple neck for instance. I like it what the heck.

I'd have it set up at the nearest guitar shop if needed. That shouldn't cost much.

It's lower end, most likely, but it will do the job for now, until you can get another one.

On the other hand, you might find you really like it.
