Hey guys need a pick me up, I have a buddy who has an established band in town they are good and play at clubs regularly, He actually helped me get a guitar and has taught me how to play about a year ago. He let me play with them today at a free gig they were doing, not a lot of people showed up but was cool to get up and play. I just don't feel i did that great , and was REALLY nervous , my buddy was positive and said it was fine !

Everytime I play I feel that way. Thats why you alway practice and try to get better. You are your own worst critic.

ha ha ha ha ha. i get nervous at practice. for me it has never been easy. here's what i've learned. if you make a mistake, just keep going like nothing ever happened. 9 times out of 10 noone will know but you. when one of us screws up we just smile. unless you are getting paid mega-bucks or playing with perfectionist, don't sweat it.

Absolutely

You could have played like the lovechild of Clapton and Malmsteen, and you'd still think you could have done better. After 24years of gigging, I still feel the same way. I have the experience to differentiate between a genuinely crap gig and my own expectations though.

Your mate obviously thought you were good enough, so take that as some encouragment.
It's a big step and you took it. Time to shine some apples on your chest and stick your chin out.
Put your guitar down for a evening anc chill out a bit. Go and see some friends. Don't sit around getting analytical over your first gig.

Good on you. Was it Eleanor Roosevelt who said, "Try to do one thing every day that scares you"?

My first live gig was in front of 1500 people. Talk about nervous. But, it only took one and I was hooked. I only wish the work schedule allowed more time for it.

first time and only time i've gigged was at year 7 battle of the bands. i wasn't really nervous as it was a last minute choice. there were about 70 people, but the only thing i was nervous about was that we were playing rape me by nirvana and cause people at my school take things to literally i thought they actually would

Our band's inside joke to cover up mistakes is "blame Jim." We used to have a rythm player and now that he's gone and it's only 3 pc, if the guitarist or I make a mistake we just look at each other and say "blame Jim", than you smile and carry on. :D
