Hey guys its been a while since I posted a topic and asked for your advice! So I would like to ask everyone there opinion and take some of that advice :D

I currently own a Roland MicroCube which is a great little amp :) it does everything you need but it does lack raw clean phat strat assisting tone(hopefully you understand my meaning) and im looking to buy a Fender Champion 600 as its very affordable and uses a tube :)

Admittedly im pretty much set on getting it but im informing you guys because there is always a chance I've over looked something and one of you will save the day!

So share away :) favourite bedroom amp convos and suggestions all wanted and more than welcome :D

Regards
ClassicRock92

Cornford Harlequin 1st choice.
Fender Vibrochamp xd or VHT Special6 or Marshall Class5 as 2nd. In the upto 6watt range. Depending on budget and what you want it for.
The Fender wins on downright verstility. The VHT on build and probable durability (it's too soon to tell) and the Marshall just for the sound of the thing. You could include the Blackstar HT5 in that too. Slightly different to the Marshall.
The Cornfords a splurge but very, very worth it.

I also have a micro cube. I'm using a cheap Les Paul copycat just now and it probably makes the guitar sound better then it is. I really like it as a small.practice amp, plus its good for traveling. Looking into a gdec or a vox vt40+ when I get my new strat though

I own a 600 and use it exclusively in the studio for all recording. I can get amazing cleans and distorted sound. It all depends on your taste. It is the perfect studio amp for me. You will find a lot of folks mod them...my recommendation is don't. Give the speaker some time to break in and take it from there. I am keeping this amp stock because it sounds so great. Hope that this helps.
ABS :D

Im fondest of the Champion because after listening to all the suggested amps the the champion seem the best for money. the fact its the cheapest too isnt a massive factor of my decision making.

Thanks everyone though :) and Niki do you own a cornford? if so then awesome :) i had a good listen and its shexy 8)

Also anyone on youtube and fancy sharing a link? I would be interested in hearing you all :)

No but I do own the vintage amp it's copied and modified from.
It is better sounding than my 59 Clubman, perhaps a little too hard hitting at higher volume settings.

In all honesty the VHT special6 has all of em beat. £200 for handwired point to point amplification. It's a no brainer. Even if you don't like it, it's a modders dream.

Don't dismiss VHT mate. Really.

You're up against it wanting a 5watter for clean sounds. The absolute best you'll get is the Cornford, hands down. Unfortunately theres not much else like it on the market.
The only other option to get that sound without shelling out £650 is to build your own. You'll do the chassis and components for around £70- £100, spoeaker and cab for around another £100.

I love the Fender Vibro Champ XD for clean or distorted.

With that said, I should say that my original amp died and Fender replaced it. When I got the new one home I noticed two things different about it:

1) It was easier to make it break up, and
2) The DSP was different - No flanger or phasing in the new amp

SF Champ or a Pignose. I like small tube amps for the breakup. The Pignose is solid state and just a fun porch weasel.

First time build go to this bloke

http://www.ampmaker.com/

I didn't and found it a source of regrett. Though Steve did help me out a bit (seriously nice guy).
You'll get a boutique quality amp at a fraction of the price, and learn a bit too. A great source of pleasure that yields quicker results than a guitar building project.

I know some people that have built SE5's. Apparently their a very good amp, capable of keeping up with most drummers. A little too modern on their distorted sound for my liking.

What I did was bought a Torres 50watt British invasion kit, years ago. Found out it was way too much for me as a first build. Sought a lot of advice (ampmaker being one). Scrapped a lot of the components, kept a lot of others and turned them into a much simpler 18watt. Lots of heartache, temper tantrums and head scratching later I had a amp that cost £200 in components that put my 2 JCM800's out of work. It's very specific to me and theres more mods in line for it. Namely master volume then a treble, mid and bass control before gain stage, then the overall tone control after the eq. See where I go from there.

You won't get it right first time. Very few people do, including the big name companies.

I have to agree with Nik the VHT is a great little amp in either combo or head/cab format. It can do clean or nice and gritty and for a modest price The combo goes for around $200,the head $180 and cab $150.Another great bedroom amp is the Ibanez at around $400 that can be set at 5 or 15W or the Egnater Tweaker for about the same price but is far more versatile tonewise because you can classic British or Fender like tones. Both amps use 6V6s for tubes but the Egnator uses 2 12AX7s in the preamp.Of course you can't go wrong with a Blues Jr. or any of the Vox or Marshall low wattage amps.
