If they didn't have the intestinal fortitude and weren't men enough to tell you to your face you're better off being rid of them-believe me there'll be many other chances to play with guys who most likely have more maturity and class.

[quote="martynrss2"]So I just got a text from my friend and lead singer saying that him and our other guitarist felt that it would be for the best if they went on as a twosome.

Let me see.....didn't Dave Mustaine found and play guitar with some band before Megadeth?? Hmmmmmm???

Dude its ok if you don't feel comfortable around them. To be perfectly honest, its ok for you to be angry too, its a good reason.

I think they should have told you face-to-face too. If I were your friend (and it ever came down to it) I would tell you in person. But I also wouldn't just let you go if it weren't for some good reason too.

What I would do is just keep working on being the best you can be. An old band I was in was with a Singer with LSS (lead singer syndrome) and he banded with the rhythm guitarist and drummer and basically ousted me. Now I take pride by being in a better band, and knowing that I am a much better musician than he is.

Kinda wish they could have done it to my face but oh well.

To be honest I could see it coming. I knew they had been meeting up and jamming without me. I was thinking of saying something anyway until they dropped this bomb on me.

I think it might be for the best anyway. I'm really into classic rock and blues whereas they're not. I'm going to university next year so hopefully I'll find some like minded people.

They are two of my best friends, and at least they told me instead of just pushing me out, it was still early days anyway. I feel pretty crappy just now but I hope it'll come to pass.

And I hope I get a recording contract before they do :-)[/b]

The same thing happened to me, kicked out of a band by people that were friends as well as bandmates. But this was back in the early 90's long before texting. Was gone on family vacation for a week and they left a message on our machine to get when we got home.

Two of those guys were good enough friends that they stood up in our wedding, I was completely blindsided. They also kept alot of PA equip that was mine but was on the band van, stuff I'd bought 2nd hand or had for years so no receipts so they knew I'd have no legal recourse to it. I threw the bass under the bed for a couple years after that and didn't play at all.

After I started playing again my outlook has been keep the music fun but not too serious. You'll be a better person by keeping this experience in mind as you approach new opportunities.

martynrss2, you are in a much better position, from my experience, than they. Being as old as dirt I can say from experience that there is karma attached to that boot, almost like a boomerang, I have been booted and those times I actually came out the better player for it, then I have booted others and, wouldn't you know, that boot came back later much harder, ouch! Play on Bro 'cause in this case you just may be the first with the record contract

Thanks for the pick-me-ups, just what I needed to hear. I've listened to their new songs and frankly if that was what they were aiming for they done me a favour by booting me out :-)

I'm looking forward to playing what I want to now, and hopefully it wont be too long before i meet some like minded souls, hopefully ones that play drums, bass and can sing ;-)

I've always said that bands are a lot like girlfriends due to situations just like this.

As you've said above, they aren't into your exact type of music enough. Logically, it follows that 'down the road', you would wind up progressively resenting the type of music you were doing with them. Further in this natural progression of events you most likely would begin looking for more personally enjoyable musical opportunities apart from them so, and please don't take this sarcastically, instead of you breaking up with them, they broke up with you first. We've all been there both with bands and women.

"One door closes, another one opens."

Stay true to your type of music, focus in on it and strive to really excel at it. As was also said above, university will have MANY players who are 'on the same page' in terms of music that you are. Hook up, connect, jam your face off. Sooner than later you will find a handful of mates where musically you'll all click.

Again, bands are like girlfriends. You can either hate your ex's guts or still try to be friends. Granted, the relationship will be changed though. And just as they say about doomed relationships, "There are many fish in the sea."

FWIW, you'll probably not get totally over the betrayal by your two mates' cowardly deed until you have a new band which is perfect for you and then, ironically, you'll be glad they did what they did. An added plus for you would be for your new band to be out making a name for yourselves on the university circuit while these two are still in the basement, still sending cowardly text messages to future unwanted members, still remixing demos.

Onward and upward!

They fired you for a reason. Figure out what it may be and improve.
