For the past two months I haven't been able to log in but its great to be back! :D

So here's the trouble: I recently got a 1968 Ampeg Rocket II (known as the Rocketreverb) and today while I was jamming with the computer I reached over to the USB terminal and shocked my self... really bad.

It didn't stop either- My amp is making me spark whenever I come into contact with anything!

I don't know if its because its a two-prong (no ground) amp. I got it hooked up to a surge protector (doesn't stop the shock). Do I need to find someone who can ground the thing?

This has only happened to me twice too- Once in praiseband and today...

Really would appreciate any help!

It needs a three prong, grounded plug. If your not comfortable replacing it, an amp tech can knock it out for very little dinero........... 8) Mike

Thanks thats what I was hoping would be the only problem.
A lot of people when I researched this amp would talk about replacing the cord, and I think I have a buddy who'll be able to do it for me...

The amp itself has been amazing so far. Oddly enough I was going to post pics of it and my guitar today but I think I blew my usb terminal... :/

I'm a little scared now to go near the thing...

Anyone know how to properly do this? I understand like about the hot and neutral, but where would I run to ground to and from?

Not familiar with the insides of an Ampeg. Try asking on the Vintage amps section. Lots of knowledge there. Hope this helps............Mike

On a Fender amp the green (ground) lead from a 3-conductor power cable would typically be grounded to the chassis, using one of the power transformer's mounting screws. The Ampeg is probably similar in general layout.

HTH, and be careful when opening up your amp.

I urgently recommend against you trying to replace the cable yourself. Even with the amp unplugged, you can still receive a lethal shock for up to five days afterwards; couple this with the possibility of you hooking it up wrong. As was said above, this is a simple exchange for the experienced and shouldn't be expensive. If for nothing else, let the experienced do it for all around safety and peace of mind.

Definitely 8). I've only have a little experience with this stuff.
I think there's a repair shop in my town that deals especially in old epuipment so I might take it there.
The only problem is affording the fix...
In the mean time, what should I do to keep myself from building a charge when I play?

The only problem with that is that I don't have amps to spare

all I have is my strat, my rocketreverb, and a distortion pedal

you have to keep it really simple at my age and money situation....
