Today the island part of our province got absolutely hammered by Hurricane Igor. There were parts of the island that had 9" of rain in less than 24 hrs and others had winds almost 100 mph. Over 2 doz. towns declared states of emergency and many were cut off from the rest of the province due to washed out roads. Many homes were evacuated and several were washed away.An 80 yr old man was swept out to sea and lost when the section of road that he was standing on foundered into a river-he had gone there to check on a friend's summer cabin. The ocean by our house was like it was boiling just mountains of huge waves crashing onto the beach and then being whipped into a froth by the wind. I was going to take some pix to post but it was just too wild to venture down to the beach-maybe tomorrow. Luckily the worst we've had to suffer were the numerous power outages, some lastingover an hour.

Hope all is well up in Newfoundland Guitslinger. I didn't know it was so bad up there, I'll have to call Mom & Dad to see if they're ok.

Hi Voodoo Blues,The Burin Peninsula was the hardest hit,St. Lawerence got the heaviest rainfall of all and the highway is washed out in many places so there's no access to the TCH.I hope the folks in Lewins Cove fared well.
