I'd never pay over $100. for a used 30 watt solid state practice amp. Shop for a 50-60 watter for the $200. I'd go for a different name brand while you're at it.

Pass on that deal. Crate amps have always had a bad reputation for reliability. I didn't believe it myself until my mid 90's made in USA Crate BX160 bass amp died on me. The repair cost me as much as the amp was worth, since they have a horrible value in the used market! Then something else failed a year later. I had to put it out of its misery.

Crate's parent company St Louis Music sold to Loud Technoligies a few years ago and the brand has really gone downhill since then. They keep chasing cheaper labor and parts, so the quality suffers. Loud Technologies also owns Mackie, Ampeg, and Alvarez which have all have gone downhill in some ways because of this, in my opinion.

Get a small tube amp. IMO, no SS amp can sound like good old power tubes clipping. Just sayin......... Mike

The fact that the amp has been sitting unsold for 2 years speaks volumes. I would imagine that you're not the first person that he offered this thing to at 1/2 price-I would pass on that amp if it was 1/4 price.Crate amps don't have a reputation of being bullet proof,in fact quite the contrary.

BTW, a Fender Champion 600 for the money is really nice practice amp and tube.

i would go this route.

i will stand for crate though. ive had several and still have 1 crate amp.
they are a good get ya started amp. ive never had a problem 1 with them
and wouldnt trade the one i have now.
i wont join the tube vs SS on here as i dont know your needs.
i will say the tube amp as well as the SS amp both have their place.
i own both.
