Hey guys. I am 17 in my senior year. I have been playing for about 2 years. Taking lessons and playing quite a bit. I've always wanted to play in a band and get started playing small shows. The problem is I dont know how to recruit guys. So how do I get started in this whole thing? Any advice would be greatly appeciated. Thanks guys.

hi cavsrock08, welcome to the forum! May you enjoy it here! 8)

I don't know which part of the world you're from, but I guess USA. I don't have any first-hand experience since I'm based in Europe but I suggest taking a look at Craigslist.

good luck man!

No problem mate! :)

I hope you find what you're looking for. Maybe you could give the folks some notes on what style of music you want to play, what genre, which bands or acts you like, you know? Flesh it out a bit! ;-)

I'd give craigslist a try, although I prefer, as Nevin has suggested, the face-to-face / mouth to mouth/ "real" approach. But I'm very oldfashioned in most of my thinking so don't ask me!

anyhow: fingers crossed!

Why not put some ads up around the school you're at? You do have notice boards don't you? Thats the best way to target people in your age group.

Another thing, be flexible. Be willing to accept people younger than yourself and of differing abilities. If they are bad players, but serious about the band. They'll improve quickly and be easy to work with once their up to speed.

Hi cavsrock08, welcome to the forum. Speaking with other people is good, but you could place ads at the entrance of bars, music stores, laundromats, schools and showplaces. If you have a MySpace or Facebook account, this is another option. Best of luck.

Like others have said get the word out by putting up notices in music stores, school papers, local free ad spaces just word of mouth etc. also ask music store personel as they are constantly being told who's looking for other musicians.Good Luck.

Or, in a tight spot, older.

Good suggestions, Ninja. Say, I never felt that getting people together for a band was that hard? Maybe it is different where cavsrock is. Or maybe I'm getting old. Alas!

Welcome to the forums. Does your school have a band? even if your not a member. I bet you would find some folks to play with.
Good luck

Bill

I've always found getting a band together to be harder than juggling cats.

Mine doesn't let me juggle him. ;-)

Getting one together is not that hard. Getting a good one together is a totally different matter, I grant you that! :)
