man......... guys i just missed a good find.
on craigs list, a guy had a 79 strat for sale, $300
had pics and looked nice. i had him on the phone
as the guitar walked out the door.
this guy said oh well, it needed some work.
the volume knob was staticy and the frets buzzed.
when i told him the guitar was worth about $2,000
as is, seriously he almost cried. yes guys it was a beautiful blonde too.
he said "man, i guess i should have done more research before i sold it".
then he said "that just totally ruined my day fella".
man, i was laying down for a much earned nap when it came on craigs list.
a true story of "ya snooze ya loose" lol.

i feel your pain brother, I just missed out on a 1973 Guild M75 Bluesbird by a few bucks the other day. I have been looking for both a Bluesbird and a Starfire IV...I have at least one instance a week where I just miss out on one that I would love. But I'm not willing to overpay so that's my fault.

Sounds like you would have had yourself a sweet blonde though!

oh the pics were very pretty indeed.
man im kicking myself. ive been wanting one too.
i feel kinda sorry for the seller. he was kind of messed up at the end of our call. the back was reliced just a bit even, just enough to know it was played and maybe even cherished at one time.
oh Lord im starting to feel ill lol.

I hate these "the ones that got away"stories-they bring back too many painful memories.

Photos can't tell you how the axe played or sounded.

There's always another one. And the one you fall in love with, hands-on is better, anyway.

Personally, 'do not think too highly of "mail-order brides." (guitars on the internet or in catalogues)

'Rather meet 'em in person and "date" at least once, before taking them home....

still worth more than $300 no matter how it played.

i love it. seriously.
i would have stripped that $300 dollar deal down and had it refinished like yours for sure. that was the plan while i was calling the man.
it might ruin the value to a collector but it damn sure would spike the value to me and my collection.

I love it too! Perfect neck for my hand, perfect weight 7 lbs 6 oz, and sounds like a Strat :) the only thing I've done is have the frets replaced after years of being my only guitar... then the 335 came along and it took a long break :)

i want a pic of that 79, by itself, laying up aginst that amp
to use as my background on my puter. :D
i do that with everything i set my mind on. its kinda like a goal reminder.
it gets taken down the day said goal arrives in the house.
i know i know
