When I started playing it was only really legends that got sig models like angus young, bb king, eric clapton, jeff beck etc, but nowadays as someone else has said, its all about what sells and makes money. At the end of the day guitar manufacturers are a business and making money is whats matters.

To be honest though I am glad it is kinda the way it is now as otherwise I wouldnt have got what is pretty much my ideal guitar. A jim root tele, I love mahogany bodies and emgs so its a match made in heaven for me, as well as a very versatile sounding guitar in my J5 tele. :)

I think she is already working with Paul Reed Smith to develop her own signature axe...she's got chops, but I don't get into shredders that much.

...it will be sad if she gets her own sig model so soon (especially with PRS),

Cough About that...

Not im my neck of the woods. Clapton, Vaughn- yes. The rest, I had to search to find who they were. Koetzen, ...WTH? who is that? John Mayer & Clapton- is probably the only two who are well known to the non-guitar masses

Im so glad we have search engines & youtube now

Ritchie Kotzen :) had stints with Poison and Mr Big back in the day, Now he is just a solo artist i think. not 100% sure!

IMO, Signature Series models should only be made of artists who have been in the industry for at least 20 years and who have at least made some kind of impact and influence on today's musicians. They shouldn't be made of today's flavor (ie; John Mayer, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, etc).

KWS fits the bill.

Maybe they should do it like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, 20-25 years after your first album you'd be up for a signature model.

If by KWS fit's the bill you mean he deserves his own Sig model then I agree with you.

I think you have to add John Mayer to that list, he's pretty amazing, not just today's flavor.

It alreadys exists. It's part of their Korean SE line. Strange. She plays these beautiful hight end 24's with ten tops and they do her guitar as an MIK. Fan base and price point must be figuring in here somewhere.

Back on point. ME has made it clear that the Artist Series instruments are but 'snapshot' versions. If you want the real deal, e.g.. Clapton, you're either going to have to have TK build you one.(Last comment in the Forums by ME is that TK is the only one presently building guitars for Eric),or buy one of the high end repros Fender has been doing.

For me, the only value to an artist's guitar is that there is some particular feature of it that the regular line does not offer. In that regard, the Clapton has a neck profile which, over the years, I have established as being best for my hand. The '57HR comes in a close second, afterwhich is their generic-V.

A KWS signature model would be amazing. I think it really comes down to what is going to sell. I mean they gave that guy from Blink182 a signature guitar, all be it with only one pickup, and the guy can barely put three chords together. I've had my eye on the SRV signature model for a while but don't know if I can handle the extra-heavy gauge strings.

Joe.

Are you joking? You can put your favorite guage strings on any guitar.

You'll be happy to know that the SRV sig comes stock with 10's.
Strings: Super 250R, NPS, (.010-.046 Gauge)
http://www.fender.com/products/search.p ... 0109200800

Fender would not sell any SRV Strats if they came stock with 13's. The SRV worshippers would love it though.

Sorry for going off topic. Just wanted to clear that up.

Though proported to have been of some help, the true magic did not reside in the strings. 8)

Well, maybe if Buddy Whittington or Tab Benoit or Smokin' Joe Kubek or Derek O'Brien or Charlie Sexton or Doyle Bramhall II were a semi-hot blonde chick who rehearsed with Michael Jackson for an unrealized tour, they would have signature models, too...

If a clown like Keifer Sutherland can get his own signature guitar the rules of admission to the signature guitar club-at least at Gibson-must be pretty lax.
