The main reason for the cutouts is to drive the kids in ricer cars crazy. I cannot stand the sound of fart can car. I am sick of hearing them at stop lights taking off full speed sounding like a weedwacker stuck in a woodchipper.

Thus when the fart can car is next to me, the cut outs can obliterate them. A 5.3 running straight should fix them good. 8)
I have a fart can ( Honda Mugen) on my 99' Civic Hatchback I am 50, now My newer Accord is stock and I just got rid of the Ram and bought a new Chevy Silverado. The new truck with it's stabilitrac and traction control and 305hp. drives like a dream. It come with skid plates, heavy duty tow package and eaton locker rear so I just put my weather guard box in and bed mat, rail covers.

Honda Mugen exhaust are nice sounding but not cheap the one we just had Honda put on my sons Fit Sport was $965. has a real nice clean performance sound tune specifically for the car.

I would just get a Lexus, Mercedes, Cadillac, whatever has good sound insulation and good sound system inside to tune out the crappy engine/exaust sounds from other cars.

Ahh must be getting old....

I have a 2002 Subaru WRX which started at a turbocharged 227HP and is now up to approx 260 HP. I have a full APS stainless steel turboback exhaust, Grimmspeed uppipe, Perrin turbo inlet hose, and Cobb Accessport tuning. I also have new DBA rotors with Hawk HP pads and 2004 BBS STi forged wheels, which weigh only 14-15lbs each for unsprung weight reduction. I'm looking into Whiteline adjustable swaybars front and rear just to tighten up handling a bit. I'll be re-tuning my car in a month or so; it should bring me up to approx 275HP.

I have a 1994 civic dx hatchback. I got new hubcaps for it ^^ I would modify it, but frankly I enjoy being one of the few to have a stock civic in PA that has no rust at the moment :P
That being said awesome WRX, I love the wagons. All that wonderful space for haulin gear ^^

Absolutely lots of space; when I had a house, I put around 40-45 bags of mulch in it with the rear seats down. Still had room for more, and it smelled nice afterwards

Those rice rockets are very expensive to modify and are going out of style with the tuners. The trend will be back to rear wheel drive for better control and more horsepower. I don't think you are going to be hearing many more fcans soon.

Even my neighbor who turbo's Mitsus is getting tired of how expensive parts are. He's thinking muscle cars these days.

I'm also a pickup truck driver and have an AMC I'd like to put a V8 in.

As far as your muffler project you might want to consider an aftermarket bolt on system instead of cutting up your existing and having it fall on the road while you are showing off. I did that with my Mustang and had to go through traffic to retrieve my Cherry Bomb muffler.

The WRX is definitely not a rice rocket. It's full-time all-wheel drive (try driving a rear-wheel car in the rains we have here in South Florida, the WRX is like a go-kart), known for long term reliability (ask any Subaru owner how many they've had...we have 3 in the family), not expensive to repair (haven't had to) or modify; the Subaru market is huge and quality parts are readily available. True rally heritage. As for fart cans, if you've ever heard the sound of a Subaru boxer engine, it's as far from a fart can as the sound of a Mustang 5.0.

Yeah, that is the direction my neighbor went with his cars modifying them for all wheel drive and taking them to the drag strip. He already had one of the pistons drill a whole into the pavement and had to trash the car because the engine was too expensive to replace. I respect what he does and all the other tuners but for me and pretty soon him old school is a lot easier on the budget.

The WRX is a very specialized car and as I recall also not very cheap to acquire or repair. The engine is modular which means that all the accessories are part of the engine block. I have a friend who also has one of these cars and says like you they are very easy to work on. I think you guys are better mechanics than you realize and have very good tools.

Talk nerdy about your vehicles! I have a few plans for my truck, 2005 Chev Silverado 1500 series Z71.

I am looking into either buying or making a set of exhaust cut outs. I would ideally like to get some electric cutouts! I am a little bit iffy of leakage, but that could be solved easy enough.

Stock sleeper exhaust to straight pipes at the flick of a switch (or at most a few simple bolts if you go the manual route).

If you make your own, go to the local junk yard and get yourself two used throttle bodies. They don't leak and you can open them by cable from in the car.

Interesting! I would have never thought of that.

Is that your car? If so, cool. Need to tell us about it.

You can normally get them pretty cheap and it does work, you just have to fab up a flange to bolt them to and get a universal cable kit.
As far as the car, it's a 67 Mustang with a naturally aspirated 351W stroked to 418 cid. It puts out just over 660 at the flywheel. I'm running a full manual C4 and a Currie 9 inch with 4.11's on a Tru Track diff. This vids a bit old, the car has since run in the 10's after some suspension work and tuning.

There are faster cars out there, but how many of them are true street legal daily drivers? This one is.
