T for talent? This summer I bought a used knock off cheap acoustic cutaway guitar for the sake of learning a few things about tweaking guitars. So when I'm not learning how to play my new bass guitar, I mess up my experimental guitar. So this week I strung it with .010/.046 electric guitar strings, filed the saddle to lower the action and tuned it to open G. Wow, this cheap guitar is alive again. I never realized how fun it could be to noodle around in open tuning. It seems that anything you do sounds good in open G tuning. I don't know if it comes from the fun of playing but even the wife told me that I sound better than usual. :? Anyways, just enjoying my stuff and learning cool things in open tuning. See ya.

G'Day Claude. Yes I've also found that open G is a great way to impress friends.

Good stuff and keep having fun with it. Open E is also another one I've played around a bit with. Good for "Gimme Shelter" if you're into the Stones.

Try an open "C"- C G C G C E This one is used in Zep III's Friends. Or an open "D"- D A D F# A D which is also great for slide. For example it is used in Zep III' s Bron Yr Aur Stomp. It is capoed in the third fret to play in the key of F Major. Or try D A D G A D, lots of traditional folk music use this tuning plus Kashmir on Physical Graffiti.

The possibilities are endless; you can drop the major third in any of the open tunings one semitone and you have open minor tunings. Experiment!

One bit of advice.....if you want to use an open "E", tune to open "D" and capo in the second fret. Less stress on the neck. Great for the Black Crowes' "She Talks to Angels".

Have fun!
