i know that pretty much everyone in this forum is a guitarist. those of us who got lucky enough to play with great drummers know how important they are to the band.

with that in mind, who is your favorite drummer? how about your favorite drum solo?

drummers- john bonham
ginger baker
neal peart

drum solos:
in a gadda da vida- love the way that solo is mic'd
toad- we used to play that with a nice long drum solo- ticked people off.

your choices?

more love for Levon Helm and the others above, I would also like to add Carl Palmer to the mix.

also don't forget guys like
Phil Rudd and Bill Ward (the most under rated skin smasher ever.I like him better than Keith Moon-the most over rated ever)

Aside from the ones listed here:

Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater
Keith Moon from The Who
Chad Smith from RHCP, Chickenfoot, etc... but mainly RHCP

Favorite drum solo(s):

Keith Moon on Won't Get Fooled Again and Who Are You. Somewhat simple in theory, but played with such raw power and reckless abandon that few to this day can match it ^^ (perhaps over-rated, but I don't care, he's Keith Moon, he's over-everything :P)

I play drums too (not very good, but good enough to fill in if the drummer wants a break), and my favorite style of drumming is that loose 60's rock sort of groove. I also dabbled in jazz for a while, but I'm way out of practice there. It was a whole lot of fun, though! :) Hopefully I'll get back to being good enough to play jazz someday soon.
