Ummm, your diatribe is actually pretty spot on for many religeons ... except one. That being Christianity. There is really very little "invented" when it comes to Jesus Christ. For one thing, any one who doubts that he was a very REAL person who died on a cross has their head in the perverbial sand. Further, the also very real history corroborating his life, the bible's "new testement" and his assertion as the one and only Messiah is amazingly compelling.

It is quite normal to defend your own religion... Jewish people will also say "except one", so will Muslims, so will Buddhists, and so on...

I have doubts and yes my head is buried somewhere :)

Let me ask you this, were the Holy Books written by men or not? I know each religion claims their book is the word of God, but I also believe that it was written by men. If God was so busy helping man write these books where's He been hiding at the last 14 or 15 centuries??

Judaism: ~3000 years ago
Christianity: ~2000 years ago
Islam: ~1400 years ago

At that rate I would've expected Him to show up a few more times since... but it seems like He decided to take a long extended break for whatever reason, leaving his creation to destroy themselves because of the religion He taught them. Yeah, sorry, I'm not buying any of this. I blame the human race for all of it, we have so much more to learn, we are still a very young species...

Again, I mean no disrespect to anyone who's a believer, these are just my views and I don't claim to know everything :)

i do believe in God, and i must say without Him in my life, it wouldn't be worth living. the day i stop believing in God is the day i put a bullet in my head. no disrespect to non-believers of course, everyone has their own beliefs and feelings. but i have no doubt in my mind that God has made my life better, i have certainly felt, physically FELT God. not to mention He saved my life once.

i actually have a few atheist friends, so i have no problem with their beliefs. the only time i have a problem with atheists is when they 1. take my rights as a Christian away, or 2. outright attack my religion. (the Darwin fish, for example. that's just mean.)

and one other thing, atheists always say that, without religion, the world would be a better place. there would be world peace. well, my response to that is if everyone on earth believed in the same way, be it atheism, Darwinism, or any of the wide number of religions, the world would be at peace. disagreements and greed cause wars, not religion.

that's my 2 cents.

What I dont believe in, is people who go to church every sunday or what have you, to pray and repent sins they have cast during the week- week in, week out. It is soo rife in society!! I think there are very very few 'true' followers who actually do live and swear by their 10 commandments etc...

i use to worry about this too. i suddenly realized that everybody has their battles and this is one of those peoples battles. then i realized i gotta worry about my own slavation and i too have my own battles as well.

keep in mind jesus's 12. heck paul was a christian killer.............
he changed his ways on the road to...... heck i cant even spell it lol.
they continued to mess up even though they were saved and jesus continued to correct them along their journey.
remember the 7 letters to the 7 churches?

nobody can follow the 10 w/o sin, nobody. the good thing is the christian is forgiven. so many people want to point out the bad things they see christian folks do. yeah well nobody is perfect no matter how hard we try,
but remember this, the christian walk through life is the hardest walk of all. the dark one attacks the christian person the hardest.
why? because he already has the others where he wants them.

I think you'll find that Judaism is 5000 years old not 3000.

Speaking from a Christian point of view God did everything he needed to at the crucifixion. That was the seal on the new covenant, or testement if you prefer. He needed to do nothing else. It's a case of theres the deal, take it or leave it. Luckily he made it simple to follow, theres only one thing you have to do to qualify. Without meaning to offend any Jewish people here that was the fulfilment of the old covenant, or Torah, Prophets and Wisdom writings. Apparently the Muslim faith takes that one step further. Though I'm not familiar enough with it to comment. I simply don't see why anyone who'd done everything by the end of act2 would have a act3, 4 or 5.

Why after going to all those lengths would He need to put in a appearance until He calls time. Besides which if you look to other non standardized beliefs there's much more recent counts of direct interaction. The Mormon faith for example the first being around 1890.

The simple fact is believers will always see the interaction of their deity in their lives. People who don't believe won't. If they did, they wouldn't believe it anyways. It's certainly not my job and far beyond my capabilities to make anyone believe anything.

honestly cedar, ive yet to see a real war or fight over religion.
never even read about one happening.
what i have see and read about are fights and wars fought over
power, money, and greed, and religion used as the excuse for the fight/war.

Thanks. I see no reason to fight about any of this. While I was in college, I kept hearing professors give their reasons why they didn't believe, but I had no real answer why I do believe. I did alot of reading, watching films, etc. to "prove" them wrong. The thing is, after all of that, even though I did find major flaws with their reasons, I finally realized that religeon is based on faith and I'm fine with that.

I also found that most people between 18 and 30 go through a rebellious stage concerning authority and religeon among other things. I did. That phase actually helped me to realize that I went to church because I grew up going. After reevaluating things, and truly listening to sermons, lessons, and reading the bible, I realized that until then, I never really understood what it all really meant. Some people that openly bash religeous beliefs now may actually get curious later and find something they have been missing.

dude your on point.

It intrigues me that people feel the need to vocalize their belief, while those that dont believe feel no need to vocalize the fact that they dont. It seems many people that practice organized religion feel the need to vocally reaffirm their beliefs in public, while a much fewer amount, that don't believe, don't feel the need to go around telling everyone they're a non-believer.

Religion by its very nature is an extremely personal relationship between someone and their god.... why do you want to make something so personal so public for everyone to see ?

maybe we don't want anybody to miss out on something awesome.

btw... if i knew how to vote in the poll, i'd be in the "yes" category. if somebody wants what i gut, just ask.... (it's awwwwwsommmmme!!!)

edit... ok, just saw the poll thing. i'm in :)

I was not defending it so much as pointing out a significant deviation from the "invented" comment. There is actually a lot of documented history beyond the Bible regarding Christ, where that is not true for numerous other religeons. He definitely existed and died on the cross. Now, believing he is the Messiah ... that is where religeons kick in. To me, I do believe. But I do not expect the fact that I believe anything to influence any one's decision.

In the end, we are ALL just muddling through our lives. I have friends that are Muslim, Hindu, Jews, atheists, and Christians. The fact they may not believe what I believe does not bother me. HOWEVER, I do feel strongly that we all should treat each other well and with respect regardless of whatever we and everyone else believes ...

Just my $0.02 ...

And in doing so fulfill five of the commandments without even trying.

In the Gospels Jesus said, Love your neighbour as you love yourself. If you look at the greek word used for neighbour is plēsion. Strongs concordance ref G4139. The meaning of the word in the perseus lexicon is near or close person. So really in this context it would mean those you come into contact with.

http://www.lexilogos.com/english/greek_ancient_dictionary.htm
http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/morph?l=plh%2Fsios&la=greek&prior=platuxai/tas#lexicon

It's a commandment that goes right back to old Testement times, Leviticus 19:18.

Aside from all that, it's just good manners anyway.

3000 to 5000, really depends on who you ask... I'm not a historian so I have no idea :) my understanding is that the Egyptians were around 5000 years ago but not Judaism.

Well by saying that you are discrediting Islam, I believe it's the 2nd largest religion with over 1.5 billion... so there are many out there who have and are still considering act 3, 4, 5...

People will believe what they want to believe. If God answers their prayers then they can prove that He exists, when there are so many unanswered prayers with no explanation as to why He decided not to answer his followers... take a person with cancer, has done nothing but believe in Him, pray, pray, pray... nada, no miracle. Then one day, another person with a deadly disease recovers miraculously and everyone wants the world to know that it was God! So how does He pick and choose who He wants to save??
