Hey guys, haven't been posting much lately. Been really busy, hope all you guys are doing well!

Anyway, to my question:

We have a show coming up on the 26th and have had VERY bad luck with bass players. In most rehearsals we just play with 2 guitars and drums and turn the bass up on the rhtythm guitar's amp. It sounds great.

My friend James said he would fill in for bass for the show as a temp replacement but the trouble is we don't have enough rehearsal time to get him as up to speed as I would like him to be.

So here we go, opinions please: Do we play a small club show minus a bass player because it has been sounding good or do we risk using James in a line-up without being completely up to speed?

What would you do?

Thanks so much,

CC

Move to the states and you will have a bass player who owns a studio.. :P
Seriously, I think you would be ok without one! I just wish I could help out.

My answer would depend on whether you're going for some exact sound (like the record or like some other arrangement that must be precise) or you have some flexibility. If the former, then you'd probably be better off skipping the bass for the gig. It would be difficult at best for someone to get the right notes and the right groove but in some externally decided style.

If you're free form and he can hit the groove (assuming you have a couple of rehearsals to find out), give him a try.

 If you read the recent posts you'll see the gig was last Sunday bro. We did it bass-less and it was great!

Thanks though.
