This is a little off the grid but I thought it was worth a post. I went to aocal pawn shop the other day. There hanging on the wall in a shadow box was a Squire with an Elvis Presly autograph. Tell me if im wrong but Squire came out after his passing. Or amI wrong?

Only during those times when the aliens bring him back to Earth.

they license shops to made "License Fender replacement parts" bodies and necks and are they Fender or not? If there Fender replacement parts it can be argued that they are in fact Fender product because Fender does not sell bodies or necks, making these manufactures there official replacements.

So is it no longer a Fender guitar if you have say a 1980 Strat that the neck breaks on and you buy a "Official replacement" neck and put the correct stickers and correct paint and tuners, Is it still a real Fender?

Both Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan extensively play(ed) Strats with replacement necks from Charley's Guitar in Dallas. Most notably, Jimmie Vaughan's white 1950s Stratocaster that became the source for his signature model...

Unfortunately, there is no one single universal sign that all fakes share. You have to take it on a case by case basis.

Best thing to do is spend some time in a guitar shop and get to know the details of particular models of Fenders that you are interested in. Get to know some musicians that play and have knowledge of Fenders. Browse pics of Fenders on retailers websites or even here on Fender's site. Elderly Instruments has the best detailed pics of new Fenders from all angles: http://elderly.com/brand/FENDER.html

Pay close attention to the Fender logo and other decals on the headstock, shape of headstock, serial number font and location, the screw pattern on the trem cover of Strats, bridge saddles, material surrounding the headstock truss rod access hole, neckplate. Some of these things fakers screw up, while some fakers do a good job forging them and vice versa. Hence, there is really no one thing to look for.

D@mn fakers!

+1

Having built my share of clones and repros over the years (both guitars and amps), I often receive requests from folks to look a particular piece over for authenticity and originality, or lack thereof. I've always taken due diligence to sound the alarm when something didn't look right and I know there are many here who provide similar aid when asked. There's only one honorable way to sell faked gear and that's by a seller ensuring that the buyer isn't duped in any manner about what he's looking at. In my case I always provide build photos which document precisely what I did and by what means I accomplished it. Regrettably, many neophytes are still sodomized by unscrupulous sellers interested solely in bilking their customers.
