I got my inspiration from Guitar Hero, I think it was 4 years ago now. Looked at the guy in the background and thought to myself, "Boy, it looks like he's having fun."

So I started learning how to play the guitar. And I've hated Guitar Hero ever since for demoralizing the value of learning how to play a real instrument.

Classical Music, Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Debussy was always playing ever since I can remember,( 4 to 5 years old), Violin did not quite cut it, but piano piqued my interest, then Classical Guitar, the Maestro himself Andre Segovia. WEll perhaps a bit stratospheric in ambition.
I must point out that I did not listen to Rock and Roll until I moved to the states at 11, Classical was the only option in our house.
At 10, maybe 9, I remember still clearly like it was yesterday, walking in winter, it was snowing, in downtown Grenoble (France) and hearing Petula Clark's song "Downtown". It wasn't so much the song itself as rather how it was produced.
Heavy reverb, of course the venue of winter and snow, roasted chestnuts being sold by vendors on the street had a lot to do with the impact but for someone who only listened to classical music, it was "WHAT IS THAT ???

The guitar classical was at about that time, then a bass at 14 (very Short lived) then at 16, an acoustic 12 string bought in Italy an EKO. At 17, a 59 Les Paul ( sadly long gone) and many other guitars later to today's CS 56 NOS strat...

My older sister gave me a tape of "Jimi Hendrix Ultimate Experience” when I was about twelve. I wore that tape out! That's pretty much what made me want to play. I had a really crap nylon Spanish guitar but my older brother is an awesome guitar player so there was occasionally the chance I could steal a go on his old Marlin Tele style guitar.

I got my first electric at 16. It cost me £75 and was a Gibson copy that I bought off the son of the guy who started up Mushroom Records! :D

Yeah you do! I dont know you and I miss that one!

My inspiration to pick up guitar was an Ex Girlfriend( surprising eh!) we had been together for 3-4 months so I was pretty invested, anyway She then went off with my Best mate in july time 08 and I was left pretty angry so I bought a strat copy and Bb blaster amp for £20 soon after. So it sat and I NEVER played it then I met Soph another girl  and she played too and I saw her play live one day and I was blown away with how cool everyone was and How well I fit in.
So I picked up the guitar and played a little and got really into it within 2months I bought my Squier TeleCustom and came to realise I could play 1 intro and a riff and it was awful so Lessons began in febraury 09 and now Im making Damn fine progress IMO :)

:D Im now a Sound Engineer and Music Production Student.

You mean you're not a Jeff Watson fan?

I mean, GEEZ......he's a local boy!

I knew him back when he worked at Sunrise Music on Greenback.

For me, it has to be David Gilmour. He does nothing flashy, but has the perfect tone, and his solos are melodic and soulful.

I learned to play piano by ear when I was about 9, then took some lessons. After going to college, I discovered that the guitar was infinately more portable. I sat down with a borrowed acoustic and picked out "Wish You Were Here", and haven't stopped since. :D

My wife recently made me pick up a guitar...

...it was leaning against the couch and she wanted me to put it back in the music room where it belonged. :P

I'd always wanted to play, and I'd sort of toyed around with it, maybe a lesson or two here and there. But, after college, I moved out to Vail, Co. for a couple years and met a musician named Michael McNamara, who I'd sit in with every now and then,(He'd play, I'd sing) and he sort of took me under his wing and started teaching me guitar. Inspired, I devoured my guitar, couldn't put it down! Every waking moment was spent practicing and every week he'd put me on stage at his gig to show off what I'd learned. I soaked it all up and eventually moved home, started a band and stayed on the road for the next 11 years. I'm not touring much anymore, but I still play full time and Michael and I are still great friends. I've never forgotten what he did for me, and whenever I have the chance, I always try to help out an up and coming picker.

It is my uncle who is good at playing guitars. When I was about eight I used to sing while he play guitar. Though my love for music starts when I was around five, I love watching Elvis Presley sing while playing guitar. I remember my first song played on guitar was "O Come All Yea Faithful". I got callos fingers before I was able to play the whole song.

I first started playing guitar at the age of seven when I got a First Act Acoustic for Christmas. I absolutely loved it and the first time I tried to change the strings it snapped at me and I freaked out lol. I simply put the pegs back in and said "not doing that again". I would pick it up again and again over the years as I grew older. Then, when I was 15 I had my greatest epiphany. I was sitting in my room and I was on Youtube watching guitar videos and was looking at online articles of great hard rock/metal songs of the 80's. I then saw Crazy Train. I really love the song, and was curious to see who played guitar on that song. I found out it was the great Randy Rhoads. So I listened to more songs that he created with Ozzy, Lee and Daisley. I came across Mr. Crowley; when I heard that song for the first time I nearly fell out of my chair! Right then and there I knew that along with my passion for the guitar Randy Rhoads made me want to learn to play it! I then worked at a grocery store and saved up enough money to buy a guitar from the local music store, as well as an amp, and came home and started playing. I have a Jey Reynolds Stratocaster Replica, and a Washburn Classic Guitar. That is my story. :D
