Are You Experienced - Foxey Lady

Jimi blew people away with it. It was so Hendrix! And that said it all!

"Astroman", "If 6 were 9", "Machine Gun", "Angel", got to get past "All Along the Watchtower" and "Hey Joe", "Fire", "Purple Haze", "Foxy Lady", "Red House". All great songs but played and covered to death unless your just getting into Hendrix. He had a ton of great stuff beyond the top 40 stuff. Lots of serious live things too. Dig real deep and you'll find a treasure trove of amazing songs. A little hint, wear headphones and the stereo panning will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

Voodoo Child(slight return)the first time I heard this song I replayed it about a dozen times,it just connected with me.The raw unbridled passion and emotion in every riff and the lyrics just struck something inside me. I have often put on the CD on repeat and listened to just that song for hours on end.The first time I heard the Are You Experienced album I just flipped,I couldn't believe that a guitar could emit such wonderful sounds and began playing guitar in earnest practicing 8 hrs plus a day just absorbing every riff that Jimi played.Band of Gypsies also had a profound effect on me,especially Machine Gun I spent countless hours trying to recreate some of the wonderful sound effects that he created in that song. When I watched the Woodstock movie and saw Jimi play the Star Spangled Banner I was struck on how majestic and almost godlike he looked and of course went onto delve into how he created his sounds in this fabulous anthem.Although it was John Lennon and George Harrison who inspired me to become a musician it was Jimi who made me take my playing to another level and for that I'll always be indebted to him.

Favorite tracks are Little Wing and Hey Joe...

I feel his playing is very emotional on these songs.

Album I have listened to the most - Band of Gypsys... underrated yet a very consistent album.

Favorite song? really can't choose. Little Wing... Voodoo Chile... Highway Chile... Purple Haze... Ezy Rider... so many great songs. Can't choose just one.

The Wind Cries Mary and Third Stone From The Sun (The song features slowed-down voices and dialogues between Hendrix and his manager Chas Chandler. They wanted to reproduce the spacy sounds from Star Trek. The word Stone in the title was a way to depict the Earth from an alien point of view.)

Aside from my views on the posthumously released Hendrix tracks my favourite track is Drifting.
My favourite album is Are You Experienced. The others are just psychedelic nonsense or money grabbing accountant inspired releases.
I quite like the BBC sessions too. Hendrix live but without the hangups that plagued a lot of his live stuff.

If you play the 33 1/3 album version of 3rd Stone From The Sun at 45 RPM you'll be able to pick out the conversation they had-it's between the pilot -supposedly of a spaceship and his control tower.I said play it at 45 but it may have been 78 either way it's interesing to listen to but it's been so long since I did it that I forget the speed.
