Sorry to hear that....I'm pretty sure you could take it to a luthier and see if he can do anything?

well we really don't have too many luthiers in my area and i am kinda broke. i've also heard horror stories about bad things happening to guitars so i guess there isn't really much i can do. i put some wood stain on the chip which helped a little. mahogany is a soft wood so i guess its just gonna happen.

I like to embrace the scratches and dings in my guitars rather than resent them :D

Though of course I don't try to damage them!

I own one of those mahogany LP studio's. What you described is one of the reasons I bought it. No finish so no biggie if it gets dented. It's my take out of the house guitar. Also, it's a great sounding LP. Enjoy the dent. It just adds to the coolness of your well used LP. In ten years it'll be all beat up with all the mojo of a road worn axe. It's not like you paid $2,000 for it and it had a beautiful maple top and glossy finish. It's a beater to start with!!!

When something like that happens to your guitar, its called giving it 'character'. Several of my basses (including my Rickenbacker) have these 'character' marks. Although I try to protect my basses from accidents, sometimes things just happen.
One of my 'guitard' friends dropped his '63 Tele onto a cement floor one night during a gig.....and yes, it left a mark. A big one.

I droped my Mexi strat on a cement floor and got the back all chipped and scratched. It's only the back so thats not too bad. I usually try to keep my guitars mint, but once there is a sizable scratch I let them go. They can get scratched and banged as much as they need then.

Think about it this way, now you won't mind so much when the second dent comes along, hehe.

Yeah dents and dings are just what happens a long the way. I like to think of my instruments as tools. Tools that get used show wear.
