sometimes i put a blues song on and play over the top, just turn up a little bit louder and it seems to make me play really well. now this could be a weird illusion like singing in the shower but seems to work great.

anyone else do this??

try this albert collins, "cold cold feeling" and play over in b flat minor pentatonic. its great fun.
good one on youtube the one with the sepia picture of him in cool pose.

Sometimes I do that when I just feel the need to wank.

I also try to repeat the licks I hear in a song in real time. Like a call and response thing. It's really fun too.

I did it all the time when I was learning how to play years ago...I wore out a bunch of records that way.

I like to put on a live concert DVD and jam with the band. It's really cool, when I nod at Mike Campbell to take a solo. he does! :D

I learnt to play doing that, I still, 23 years later learn songs by doing the same thing. Tabs are ok to get a idea of progression if you get a good take. Tab doesn't express timing though and not one is 100% accurate. Their all just how someone else hears the thing. I trust my ears far more and you get a better feel (or whatever you want to call it) for the song.

I can't read music or tab so I have to depend on my ears and hands to pick out songs.Jimi Hendrix songs were the only ones I rarely played along with, prefering to play them 'til they were inbedded in my memory. All Beatles,Troggs,Who and other British invasion songs I learned by playing along with.

I plug my IPod in my Roland Cube 20 and jam along with my guitar plugged in another amp. Hours of fun.

I've been doing that more and more lately. I seem to pick up on the timing quicker that way. One other good thing... Its a heck of a lot of fun!

I also do this. This is one way I use to do to practice playing a certain song. It helps me a lot.

I found by doing it, I've gotten more creative over all. I see nothing wrong with doing it.
