does anyone know if in fact Fender's Pure Nickel Strings are all pure nickel thru and thru for all strings?

i've look at fenders website and they are silent on their materials and construction!

so

do the wound strings have a steel core that is wrapped with nickel?

and

what about the unwound strings what are they made of?

thanks

here's what Ernie Ball says;
"Made from pure nickel wire wrapped around tin plated hex shaped steel core wire."
no mention of the unwound have you noticed!

I don't think it is possible to have pure nickel strings that will work with standard magnetic guitar pickups. Based on that, I am guessing that the strings you refer to are steel with pure nickel added making the strings an alloy.

I also wonder if pure nickel strings with nothing added would hold concert pitch.

Just guessing...don't take my comments to the bank. :lol:

I am sure someone will show up with a better answer for you.

well the adverts say pure nickel, but like you say and i've read that was the reason strings changed to more steel/tin as guitarist wanted higher pitch more volume so the pickups could pick them up !

i got response from Ernie Ball and D Addario and both say the same,
only the wound have the pure nickel winding over the steel core, as for the unwound strings everything ive gotten regardless of manufacturer is that the unwound are not affected and you get the same unwound in every package regardless if, Coated, Stainless, Titanium, Nickel or what ever fancy name the company uses, their fanciness only applies to the wound strings, so as consumers we are paying all that extra money for only half of the product and what we really want as guitarists
is the unwound affected as those are the ones we play the most in our solos and picking,

so i expect the same answer from Fender as the others,

for me i just find the whole advertising a bit not above board and misleading,
