I just got an email from Fender promoting the new Mustang amps-The Mustang I for $149 and the II for $279.Both amps have 24 amp models and 24 effects but I couldn't find any info on what amps they were modeled after,the promo just said they were based on amps to give you anything from crystal clear clean tones to the raunchiest metal crunch. I'd like to know which particular amps they sampled etc. to get the models from but couldn't find it anywhere I looked ,even in the specs. Having said that the effects section should be exceptional and just about every modulation and delay effect you'd ever want are on these amps and they are 20 W for the I and 40 for the II ,pretty cheap for that kind of output . Did anyone happen to find out what amps they used in modeling,was it all Fender amps?I know that maybe this should go in the amp section but I figured more people would see it here.

There's a listing in the amp forum section for the Mustang amps.

I just took a look at em, gotta say I have some mixed feelings but I don't know why. Maybe it's just my unhappiness with the POD and the way this reminds me of it. Not that I found the POD unusable, quite the opposite. It just didn't respond like a amp would. I.e when you lower the mid and treb there is a slight increase in bass.

If there is a preamp out on em, they will be very usable. Saying that £100 for a 20watt processing amp is a steal anyways. They look to be a good home recording tool. The low latency has me very interested. It looks to be a very good USB interface.

The amps look good, so cosmetically Fender nailed it. But then again, Fender amps usually look pretty darned sweet.

But another solid state amp, really? More modelling amps? YUCK!!

Why are so many guitarists willing to accept what an engineering team decides their sound should be? Electric guitar used to be about creating a unique tone specific to you, your guitar, your amp(s), and your pedals. It was an essential part of a musicians creativity and individuality.

I fear that we are heading towards a future of "fast food" guitar tones.

<press button 1 for blues>
<press button 2 for classic rock>
<press button 3 for grindcore>
<press button 4 for deathmetal>
<press button 5 for surf>
<press button 6 for country> etc, etc.

Just because it's easier, doesn't mean it's better. Trust me kids, buy a tube amp, buy some pedals, twiddle with the knobs and experiment. The sound you develop will be much more satisfying than the prepackaged stuff you get in a modelling amp.

For sure, no doubt about it. Seems to me, however, that these Mustang amps are a cheap and small alternative to the traditional tube amp setup.

You can pick up a Mustang for a hundred bucks, and it takes up very little space without the need for pedals or whatnot. Hard to beat what you get for the price, you know?

I would look on them like I do my SCXD, beginner/practice/hobbyist amps with a small selection of different tones and effects so you don't spend a mint on stompboxes. It gives the beginner a chance to experiment with the different sounds, allowing them to make more informed choices about their gear , when and if they decide at some future point to seriously continue with the pursuit and upgrade to more professional equiipment. This stuff may not be suitable for a pro, but it definitely has a place in the grand scheme of things for those who are beginners and hobbyists.

My first amp was a Roland Micro Cube and later I got Line 6 Gearbox software for my computer. I definitely think they taught me a lot about what different effects and amps basically sound like and I didn't have to waste a lot of money to figure that out. So I agree, things like this have their place.

I guess I'll have to get the "Mustang II". :lol: I owned the car so it would only be appropriate. Too bad they didn't detail the amps in Mustang paint schemes like white with blue stripes or black and yellow. I still have the original car emblems I was planning on using on a guitar build.

Although I have someone willing to sell me a Deville Hot Rod for $200 and already have a Vox modeling amp which I barely use but got cheap. There is not a whole lot of room left for another amp unless I stack them on top of each other.

I too prefer using Gearbox for my practice sessions.

I need a new amp, i was looking at this one but your post and the general agreement of it made me want a tube amp. my budget is about $250 any suggestions on amps that are tube amps, at most 25o dollars and sound good?

Thanks guys.

Hey why not go play one? Im thinking these things are probably good. I wonder if the Frontman series will suffer?
