Hello, Forum,

I've been away for a while. After a very successful first recital at the end of one year of lessons, I got distracted by a few other things - bought a house, got a part in a musical this summer - but now, on the second anniversary of me starting to play, I'm ready to dive back in again.

I'm just at that point where I am pretty good at chord-based songs, but am still a bit baffled by soloing. I've been working on this with my teacher for the past year, learning different bending patterns, working on scales, but every time I come up to the solo part in one of the songs I know, I stop short like one of those horses in the Olympics that chokes just before a jump. I know the solution is lots more time practicing and lots of time listening, but if any of you have any other tips let me know!

I hope you've all had wonderful years blessed by great playing and lots of new gear. It's good to be back.

Hi Ellen, welcome back! Somewhere back in the mists of time (well, a few months ago) there is a thread where russianracehorse and I were saying we missed you around the place and hoped you'd come back soon.

And now here you are! :D

Soloing? When on your own push the boat out and enjoy yourself without worrying too much. In front of others stay well within what you know you can do - and practice practice practice it before hand so's you are confident you can pull it off. Something simple done well is SO MUCH better for all concerned than a difficult thing gone wrong!

I have complete confidence in you: you'll get there.

Cheers - C

Welcome back Ellen 8) your probably right in saying practice more etc, also try looking up the songs your learning on youtube, not much thats not on it these days , and most of the tutorials have a slowed down note for note solos, or I think I'm right in saying some CD / MP3 players have a speed control trickery function, possibly even some download available for your own computer, have fun.
