How long have you been doing the gear game? As I call it sometimes.

got my first guitar in like 81 or something. a Kay bass to be exact.
i thumped it for a little while but soon switched to 6 strings.
i didnt think then that the girls would think i was cool if i played bass lol.
billy shehan and steve harris werent out yet.
man i got to live a short while in the life. it was great. had a blast.
im just recently off a 15 yr break from playing. found myself in a rut one day and put it down. had full intention of picking it back up that evening
but didnt. i quit the booze and the drugs all in the same month as well as guitar. lost interest. well here i am starting out again this yr.
man things sure have changed and so have i. im kinda rediscovering myself in music again. was once a metalhead and now im all about the blues. dont even listen to the same stuff as i use to. dont even use the same gear as before, though i still have lots of it left from before.
ive been offered tons of money for what i kept but just didnt/couldnt sell it off for some reason. now i know why.

I've been into the bass since 1969. I strayed my listening to country about 5 years ago. About a year ago, my Heavy 60's music is back in control. Always played 60's hard rock. Some stuff from the 70's but not that much. My first bass was a no-name, heavy and a really lousy neck. Went to an Italian Eko. A hollow body bass similar to a Hofner. A Gibson EB0 was my mainstay for several years. I woke up one morning and decided to try a Fender Jazz. Liked it, and the Gibson was toast. The G&L SB-2 really got me. The Mesa amps also a very late change from Ampeg and Marshall. I've told folks I'm glad I grew up in the 60's. I wouldn't trade that time for me for any other. I do get bummed out when I see the way music has gone. But that's why I listen and play the music I do. My choice, Mountain and Cream first choice. How about you?

wow at this point i couldnt choose a 1 and 2.
im just really getting into the blues thing. im a metalhead remember.
im really digging freddie king at the moment.
hes got the tone i love and if you watch him it always looked like he was having a ball up on stage ya know.
im forcing clapton down my throat at the moment.
i use to not really like him. didnt see what other saw in him. im getting a bit more into him as i go. i dont think hes king or anything but i do like
some of his stuff now. i like what hes tried to do for the blues over the yrs.
ya gotta respect a man of his caliber. i bought the complete clapton
a few weeks back. been burning it up on the disc player.

i like a lot of ld ted nuggent, old zztop, pretty much any hair metal band from the 80s. aerosmith is a fav too. i just dont listen to a lot of stuff that i use to. its not that i dont dig it, its just that im looking for stuff thats new to me ya know. everything has changed for me this last yr. im looking for new old stock music lol.

Two players that I really like playing blues are, Leslie West and Jimmy Page. I want to get a hold of some of The Climax Blues Band, see what they are doing. I'm hot and cold on some of Eric Clapton.

The two blues players who made the most significant impact on me and my playing after seeing them live were Albert King and Rory Gallager. They were simply amazing!

When I saw Rory Gallagher I was in the second row,it was in the gym of our student center around 72-74 and I was blown away by the sound he was getting with just a Strat and a couple of AC 30s.He may have used some kind of boost pedal but that was all he used the rest was in his hands-what a phenominal talent that man was. When I was in Memphis in 1987 I walked into Peabody Alley just as Albert King was finishing the last song of his set,I was heart broken as we were leaving the next morning. It was only a fluke that I was at Peabody Alley but after coming 3,000 miles and missing one of my mentors put a real damper on my trip.
