Hey all. What volume do you have you amp set at for your average practice?

I set my volume at 5 and adjust my bass accordingly. It doesn't over tax the amp, gives a bit of power sound, and helps me to hear pros and cons as I play.

Well that depends on which amp im using. My 59 Bassman RI I set at 2 but my Marshall class 5 I set at 5.

Most of the time very low volume. I take care of my neighbours and they know it, so it is a win win situation. But when I know that there is no one around and the building is empty, then I'll play louder, just enough to have the amp working normally.

I set my Marshalls at 0.5-1. With an attenuator I set em at around 7.

In the evening I use my Vibrochamp and set it between 2 and 7 depending on amp model and gain.

For solo practice and general noodling, I usually play my restored '65 Princeton Reverb. It can get......loud. But not "honey-the-cops-are-pulling-into-the-driveway" abusive.

For band rehearsals it's nearly always my Spankmaster Reverb (a custom-modded DRRI, with a 15-inch JBL speaker). It's capable of some serious fattitude but I usually keep the volume below the "migraine" threshold.

Gigs are generally performed using my Twin Reverb with an extra Dual Showman cab. Our primary audiences are mostly bikers whose hearing is already afflicted with "Harley Ear". Thus, they seldom object to the sonic onslaught.

at home, no amp (apt. living) at rehearsals, loud enough to cut through the mix.

Unfortunately I don't have a practice amp so I pretty much only get to play at certain times of the day when no one in my apartment building is home. I just upgraded to a peavey VB-2 all tube head and set it atop two ashdown cabs, a 210 and a 115. I always have the clean gain and master both on 5 for just practicing. My bassbone preamp is really helpful here in rolling off some serious input volume (especially with my 18V bass)and retaining a little more of the tone of the EL34s than if I turned the amp down. I usually cut about 6 dB with the bassbone when I'm playing at the apartment or every part of the poorly constructed building rattles violently. When I go to band practice I just raise the level on the bassbone back up to normal, put the clean gain between 5 and 8 and the master around 5 or 6.
