ok guys those that have experience with them, what are some of the pros/cons of a noisegate pedal on your board?
any tone robbing happening?

I have owned two; both were extremely transparent (no noticable change in tone).

The Rocktron HUSH pedal (my first one) was good, but the guy who designed it now works for ISP, and has taken it a step further in the ISP Decimator G-String.

The Decimator G-Stringdoesn't effect the sustain as badly as the HUSH did, unless you really crank it all the way up...and although it is made for use in an effects loop, there is a way to get around that...just call the company and they'll tell you how. My amp doesn't have an effects loop, but it works great.

Either one are good, but the ISP is really better, IMHO.

In this opinion, the one on the old Cyber-Twin tends to "hobble" or "muzzle" the sound somewhat.

Off; sharp-focus, looking through clear, not-clean glass.

On: soft-focus through clean glass

IMHO, everything about the Cyber-Twin is wrong; just too digital and fake-sounding. I had such high hopes before I tried one, and I walked away VERY disappointed...maybe it was just first impressions and I need to try it again?

As far as "not needing a noise gate", I run quite a few pedals on my board (though not all at once, I just like to have a bunch of textures and colors to add as I see fit) and just the presence of some of the vintage pedals & patch cables in the signal chain can add some noise. Add single coils to the mix, and a noise gate becomes a necessity.

The way I have it set up, it is basically a volume boost.
It doesn't really color the tone, and contrary to what the knob says, it doesn't add gain the way I have it configured. If you put it before your overdrive/distortion/fuzz, etc it can add a bit of an electronic "slam" that will add gain, but if you put it at the end of the signal chain, it just adds volume and punchiness.
I use it most of the time, just putting my toe on the knob and going upward during solos, it sounds great--little or no noise, just more of what goes into it!

Armadillo, the C-T works okay here, as does an L6 Vetta modeling amp...

...because this picker does not have the excellent "dog ears" which some folks really hip with pure tone, do really hear.

Talking with and reading about folks who can really hear small increments of purity and complexity in amp tone are envied by this picker. And looked at with amazement.

No hearing problems per se, but no huge perception of truly outstanding amps' tiny increments of discernable difference, over merely good ones, either.

'Kind of think of having accepted the audio-handicap condition as "lite" colour-blindness in hearing. Oh, well.

Having "dog ears" 8) isn't always a blessing; sometimes I just can't get past a particular overtone or frequency that drives me nuts (but I rarely howl about it  )...I like Van Halen, but I have to eq the crud out of their discs because Alex rides on a cymbal that sends me up the wall (like nails on a chalkboard).
I would like to check the C-T again, but the two experiences I had with them (once in a store and once at a multi-band jam) didn't turn me on...but maybe I'm wrong; we'll see!
