I thought it might be fun to buy a cheap mic and record some strumming on my 12 string. I got the mic (AS-420), stand and cable as a package from On Stage Stands for $50. I run the mic through my Spiderjam amp and the amp has RCA outs which I plug direct to my sound card with a RCA to 1/8 stereo cable.

The lead part is my Epi Les Paul direct from the amp to the sound card.

Here's what I was able to come up with.

Mike - thanks for the compliment, they're always appreciated.

Forgot to mention in my post that I use Audacity recording software, for anyone interested in that kind of stuff. :)

Kong,
First off, nice playing. What software are you using? Lastly, if you're taking requests, how about playing your Disaster 'Casters for those of us who went through the builds with you?

Cheers,
John.E

Thanks for the compliment ... I'll try and get something together with the project guitars when I get time later this week. Oh yeah, I use Audacity recording software which can be downloaded.

Ripitup555 - thanks for the compliment, much appreciated dude.

It's an '08 Les Paul Custom and I put the Seymour Duncan Hotrodded humbucker set in it, and changed the knobs but otherwise it is stock. It plays as sweet as it sounds.

Kong,

That was really good. Your amp right into the computer's sound card? Maybe I am over thinking the recording thing onto a computer? I will see what cables I may need and see if I can get something going.

rkreisher, thanks man, here's some pics of my setup. It could not be more basic. You can also google "audacity" and download the recording software for free.

I have an RCA to 1/8 stereo cable:

The cable goes from my amp's RCA out jacks to my computer line in:

My amp also has a mic input so I can record the acoustic.

Nice recording. The 12 string sounds sweet and I love your lead tone.

Thanks for sharing.

i really enjoyed that. to me, it kinda had a frampton feel to it. hope that does not offend you. frampton is one of all-time favorites.
i'd like to hear some more and i'm sure folks will appreciate the recording info.
