Well 01GT it didn't come home with me. Same fret issue I always struggle with. I only really tried it out to compare Gibson CS to their regular guitars and to see if that fret issue occured on a £5K guitar.
You will however be somewhat pleased to hear, I found a mangled dog of a 72 SG deluxe for a bargain price. It's been refretted a few times, now the frets extend over the binding, just how I want.
Two mangled dogs of the same age will soon be growing old together.

But ... for me ... it is too beautiful.

I agree, on that guitar. The gold hardware and inlays are a bit much for me, but the concept is cool. Just make it a more "normal" Standard with nickel or chrome hardware (trapeze included of course) and I'd be happy.

I guess if I was good at repairs and refinishing, I could modify a stop tailpiece Les Paul to be a trapeze tailpiece Les Paul ...

I should say that this line of Studio Les Pauls would interest me.
A dozen years ago, Gibson had the Gem line of Studios that had P-90s, but the colors were a bit off-putting to me. These colors better satisfy my vintage tendencies.

Yes, that IS very pleasing. Can we get some pics of the SG?? She sounds like a fabulous axe. As usual, I commend you ...

Been playing my 50s tribute all day, and comparing it with my 2008 Standard. One thing I notice is how versatile the P90 pickups are. When selecting different pickup configuration, there is a very distinct tone between pickups. Anyone else observe this?

Check it out if you hear what I hear.

Constructionally, the LP IS an archtop jazz box, albeit a solid body.

In this opinion, since the deep and semisolid archto Gibsons and Gretsches and Guilds (and boutiques) have no problems with trapeze tailpieces, except the purported "loss of sustain"...

(let us pause here to sob with/for those who find this affliction so debilitating

...LPs could functiion fine and look hip with trapezes.

The Ultima I tried certainly had no loss of sustain that I could tell of compared to a run of the mill LP.

The only real way to conduct that experiment would be to record the guitar with and without the trapezoid tailpiece, on a computer. You'd need to play all notes record em seperately, use some kind of picking machine to make sure the notes are all picked with the same consistency.
Then compare all the recorded data.

Anyone fancy that mission?

Are the current Les Pauls would still be considered "solid bodies" considering they are chambered now?

I think it would be very fair to deem them such. After all we don't call swimming pool routed strats acoustics do we?

You could argue that every guitar with a chunk carved out for electronics is a hollowbody otherwise.
Gibson have been chambering (some, not all) their guitars since the 80's, haven't they?

wish they had these over here in ireland. Been looking for something crunchier than the strat and these are both within my pricerange, satisfy my namebrand snobbery, and are super pretty!
