I guess you would not want an original burst then... they had terrible book matching. No matter what Gibson does some people still knock them. I don't see anything wrong with this.

I don't see anything wrong with that guitar as well, I think its beautiful honeyburst color. Some people are just set in their ways and like to bash Gibson for some reason.

Hi Nevin I wasn't dumping on all Gibsons if you read my post correctly I was talking about the finish and bookmatching on the GT posted, you have to admit that the finish is very dull and the bookmatching isn't of the standard that you'd expect on a premium guitar.Having said that the finish on yours is just great,it's just that in the past few years it seems that there isn't the continuity of quality that there was in the pre Juszkiewicz days. I meant that I'd pick an Epi over the faded burst Les Paul or any other with a finish or sound thaat wasn't up to par.Every Epi LP I've played recently has been an exceptional guitar and a couple of buddies have new Gibson Les Pauls that are constantly being brought in for warranty work especially with tuning.Having said all that, I always said that if I ever won the lottery the first thing I'd do is go to Norman's Rare Guitars or The Burst Brothers and spend $200,000 on a '59 burst Les Paul.So I am by far not a Gibson hater as my next guitar after the LP would be a '64 Firebird VII.

So you were refering to the gold top pics I posted? Because your first comment on bookmatching was referring to a "honeyburst" finish.

Thes 50s tribute studio les pauls have a matte non glossy finish and have a slight worn look to them by design. That is why they look dull compared to the more expensive guitars that have a nicer shinny nitro finish. These guitars are only $849 wich is only $50.00 more than the cheapest les paul studio, the worn brown and cherry finish. These are budget guitars.

50s Tribute Les Paul Studio Finsh Spec:

Quote:
The Les Paul Studio 50s Tribute is finished your choice of Worn Gold Top, Worn Honey Burst, Worn Heritage Cherry, Worn White or Worn Ebony. Worn Gold Top Worn Heritage Cherry Burst Worn Satin Ebony Worn Satin White Worn Honey Burst Surface Texture
A grain-textured satin finish with 30-sheen lacquer gives the Les Paul Studio 50s Tribute a pre-worn look that enhances its vintage image, and offers a smooth, comfortable playing feel. Process
The Les Paul Studio 50s Tribute is hand-finished in nitrocellulose in a process that is carefully monitored to ensure minimum build-up, in an effort to produce a finish that breathes with the guitar and enhances natural resonance, and the final coat is hand-rubbed with a flattening agent to enhance its aged appearance. Unlike many other manufacturers, who settle for a polyurethane finish, Gibson opts for a nitrocellulose finish that will encourage the natural vibration of the instrument for a purer tone. In addition, a nitro finish is very porous and actually gets thinner over time

No Bluesguitar don't worry I wasn't refering to your Goldtop either she looks quite nice I was refering to the pic of the burst that GT01 had posted, I'm not fond of the fading on that or the bookmatching or lack thereof.I think that they went a bit to heavy on the fading if trying to impart the work of decades of playiing and exposure to the elements etc. old guitars that are faded usually have at least some gloss on their finishes but that particular burst looks more like the gloss was sanded off as opposed to being worn off after years of play.I guess that it's just personal choice,I prefer gloss finishes and have never went for the faded or warn finishes.

Congrats on the guitar, they are really sweet looking axes! I love the look of a gold top and it looks great with the P90s. I even like the knobs.8) I've been driving my wife crazy lusting after gold tops for like the last 2 years. I will have to get one. Was thinking of the EPI, but that Gibson sure looks great.

The reason they are no longer have the goldtops available for order is because it has been sold out. Gibson is only making a certain amount per color and the goldtops were such a hot seller it sold out quick. Next, hot seller was the honeyburst.

Yeah, finally saw last night on Wildwoods site that the gold tops and honeyburst are sold out
I was hoping they had not released them yet.

'Paid $425 in '74 for a Gold Top Deluxe w/ same-shape HSC (Nevin, it does have a thick neck) and still have it. Thought that was a lot of coin, back then.

Finish has held up remarkably well.

Wife's guitar...she unofficially willed it when she suddenly moved on to the next realm.

Best of fortune to all you folks getting new ones. Enjoy!

I've always thought that a Les Paul could look real nice with a trapeze tailpiece instead of the usual stop tailpiece. I'd have to check the various Gibson hollowbodies to see what kind of tailpiece would look nice.

Image

I know that Gibson did put out a Les Paul with a trapeze not too long ago (one of those guitars of the month things).

Here is another video, but this time it is set to a more natural, clean bluesy tone. Playing it through a small vox ac4tv8 tube amp with the volume at noon. Excuse my sloppy playing.

Now then, that sounds sweet those P-90s really can cut it when it comes to playing blues,I'm so glad they were invented. When I play my Casinos through my Blues Jr. it's hard to put it down.BTW those were some tasty licks.

Thanks guitslinger! This 50s tribute is certainly a great value for $849. They hype for this guitar is certainly justified IMHO. Get them while you can, as they are being made in limited run.

Yeah it is the Customshop Ultima.

In my quest to find a les paul without a neck binding/fret end issue, Mr Norman Mitchell of Old Hat vintage guitars kindly let me try his, with a view to buy.
A nice sounding instrument for sure.

On a side note, for those interested in the Music Ground/Hiwatt fiasco.
That guitar, along with a 62 lam boarded tele in daphne blue Were the guitars that Norman put in his showroom. Less than two months later Music Ground had exactly the same model in their Doncaster shop.

It is VERY beautiful ... no doubt about it.

But ... for me ... it is too beautiful. I find it less than a great playing experience to have excessive fretboard in-lays. I do not think gold hardware
looks appealing on any guitar (just my opinion). And the abalone inlay in the body molding is way too much for my tastes.
It appeals to me more as a thing of a beauty than as a guitar ... if that makes any sense. Sorry if I am being too critical on a guitar I can't afford (haha) ...
