Got my 50s tribute gold top yesterday at my local sam ash, hollywood ca. They have one more gold top in the box and one honeyburst left. So call them and grab them. I had a gold top pre ordered from GC and I ended up canceling it when I got this one. Sam Ash is the way to go if you want this guitar. Even with the pre order, you are not guaranteed to get one.

Yes, that P90 pickup sure screams when it it tortured through a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. A really mean rocking pickup. Pete Townsend live at Leeds and Pat Travers sure knows how to make P90s scream as well.

I'm still fuming over the dolts at SamAsh.com who screwed up my GT order and then unceremoniously canceled it. Grrr.

Hoping (against hope) that MF doesn't screw up my backordered order for a worn ebony...

How thick is the neck.

It really is not that thick. It suppose to be a 50s profile, but I think the neck on a SRV was thicker IMHO. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this Les Paul. Looks expensive and it sounds great to me. Love the P90 sound through a Mesa Boogie dual rectifier.

I have been reading mostly great things about them from lucky few that got them recently. I am yet to see one in store. Awesome price and value it seems.

Since you are here, I might as well ask a few questions. How is the fit and finish? Nice fretwork? Hardware opinions?

Does the paint seem to have an aged appearance? Some people seem to be bringing up that the finish seems a bit off.... but in a good way.

Not many reports coming out from the other colors. From what I saw, the black looks very dull.

I was not too thrilled with the honeyburst plaintop. Pretty bland.

I think I would go for black... or goldtop.

Too bad its not glossy.

I love that black paint/creme pickup color combination--glossy would look cool, but I like the flat-black hot-rod aesthetic as well...it just needs some pinstripes a la Billy Gibbons' gold top he used on their most recent tours for "Just Got Paid".

...the only way I would want a Les Paul is if it had either the P90s or the mini-humbuckers in it...looks- and sound-wise, that is the way to go, IMHO.

The finish is in the matte side, not glossy, but a little shinny (if that makes sense). The fretwork and setup out of the box is right on, Gibson claim that these guitars are put through the plekd system. For the money, this guitar is worth the $849 it is selling for. It looks just like the 55' Les Paul goldtop VOS that sells for $3500! Here are some pics I took yesterday.

1) Is that Gold Top's white body binding only on the Gold Top? I do not see that nice body binding on the any of the other finishes (see GC's Honey Burst pic below)
2) Also, I see GC only selling Ebony, White, and the Honey Burst? I do not see the Gold Top ... is this finish a special order? Or am I looking in the wrong place?

I have been checking the big guys (GC,MF,SamAsh,SW) since the pre-order started beginning early August, and the gold top has not been offered by any. MF just added the honeyburst about a week ago.

I love the sound of P-90s,they can really get snarly when cranked but how does the 50s tribute sound when played clean such as for jazz?I must say that I'm not impressed with the honeyburst at all,the finish looks dull and I'd expect to see better wood and bookmatching on a Gibson. In my book the Epis still win out with the finishes and they sound and play great too even if money were no object I think that I'd opt for an Epi.

Any samples without all the gain? Seems a shame to throw that much gain on such a beautiful and expensive guitar. The P-90 Gibby's I've played and owned are capable of some serious tone without the fizzy kazoo gain. It just kills the tone.

The reason they are no longer have the goldtops available for order is because it has been sold out. Gibson is only making a certain amount per color and the goldtops were such a hot seller it sold out quick. Next, hot seller was the honeyburst.
