Ha!

Pretty cool. I was rummaging around in my attic a few weeks back and I came across several issues of "International Musician" back from when I was an AFM union member in the '60s (Local 175 - Trenton, Illinois). Seems like a million years ago now......

I COULDN'T AGREE MORE!! I have a tele, a marshall and one pedal for a little gain which I set at a 3 with the tone knob on 5. (my marshall isn't great which is the reason for the pedal. Have to keep the marshall on clean and use pedal for gain or it so distorted it sounds like poop.) As soon as I can get a better amp I'll lose the pedal and go to the stripped down basics. Just like Buddy Holly baby. ha ha ha.

I like to mix it up,when playing my own stuff I always play clean and when doing leads more often than not I rely on the overdriven sound of the amp. When I'm playing some covers especially some Hendrix it's almost imperative to use effects.I don't use effects to cover up for mediocre playing and whenever I play anywhere I prove that I can get gobs of tone without them first and then I'll use them when and where needed.BTW my wife is a civilian member of the Department of National Defence and therefore I have a lot of military friends and acquaintances and I have first hand horror stories from guys and girls who have gone in harms way to keep the rest of us safe at home. Some of it is literally horrifying and it's going on every day in Iraq,Afghanistan and other hellholes of unrest. I wish everybody could hear some of the things that I have and they'd have the same regard and gratitude for those brave and dedicated people as I have. Thanks to all that serve or served in the forces to keep us from harm.
