it was 30 years ago today that Terry Fox was forced to end his 'Marathon Of Hope'

Terry was a young man who made an impact on all of Canada. He was really the first example I saw of 'activism' Terry, having suffered from a rare form of cancer, had one leg amputated. In order to raise awareness he embarked on a mission to run across Canada. he started in April of 1980, and ran the equivalent of a full marathon a day until Sept. 1 when he was forced to end his run (he had made it roughly halfway across the country,)because cancer had spread to his lungs. he died 9 months later.

he sparked the imagination of the entire country. he had hoped to raise $24 million on his run (one dollar for every Canadian, at the time.) His run has inspired a National event called 'The terry Fox Run' held annually. to date well over $500 million has been raised in his name.

"I remember promising myself that, should I live, I would rise up to meet this new challenge face to face and prove myself worthy of life, something too many people take for granted."
-Terry Fox (July 28, 1958 – June 28, 1981)

Terry was and still is an inspiration to all of us,the way he held up while going through unimaginable pain was truly heroic and he is a true hero.

Well well. Terry's fame travelled far: we heard about him this side of the Atlantic too - as that photo reminded me.

A brave human being. Our memories do him tribute.

Thanks for the headsup - C
