Nevin, I take it from your first post that you're 25? Sounds like you're just entering that phase in life when you start figuring out who you really are. I went through the same thing and I'm sure most people do. I don't have any advice really, just know that it's not strange or unusual, it is quite normal.

Nevin,

I totally understand where you coming from. In fact for me it was really bad. I am almost 40 and was feeling there was no point any longer. I also had a really bad outlook on life. The more I tried to find my place, the further I sank. I finally went to see a psychiatrist and she put me on some meds. Most of of my aches and pains have almost gone away. I have a much more positive outlook now. I am still in the exact place in life, but I can see how I do make a difference with my job. I know that I may never become famous, but I can live with that.

I am not saying this will work for you like it did for me, but you wrote some pretty big warning signs that you may need some help, whether professional or not. I hope you find hour place soon before you do something drastic. Take care and I will be sending some major mojo as well.

....... and most struggle in that phase of life for about 10 yrs.
we all go through the same stages in life. all of us.
some advance sooner than others in some phases, but we all go through it.
its funny and sometimes sad when you find someone who thinks they are gonna skip a stage like skipping grades in school.
nope its not gonna happen. it will catch up with you and at a bad time on top of that.

Hey Nevin, howzit going today? You have had a lot of us concerned about you yesterday. A simple direct truth said by almost everyone that replied to you can't be a mistake or a coincidence. Or maybe you were really down at that specific moment and we all thought that you were on the edge of something scary. Do you know that virtual friends care as much as real friends? I must admit that yesterday I was in the dark and I didn't know what to think and what to do about your comments. So I took the plunge to warn a lounge pal about what I felt was the best at the moment. Today you say "Its getting better all the time. It can't get no worse", well I don't wish it to you but things can get a lot worse than that any day. You have to be pro-active with your life, and get the tools needed to face any king of situation. Frank O'Dea (co-founder of Second Cup coffe shops) is a good example of someone who hit the bottom and went from riches to rags to riches again. If you can grab "When all you have is hope" by O'Dea, I think that you'll find it the most interesting read. Anyway, I'm glad to see you doing so well and I wish you the best Nevin. Keep in touch, don't let strange situations make you loose friends because in the end we all need friendship. See ya Nevin. :)

In this experience, all age ranges are tough.

And delightful. And exciting. And frustrating. And sorrowful and joyous and triumphant and learning experiences.

Personally, 'was not born with an instruction book rolled up and stuck in the....

Nor were any of the three daughters.

You are questioning things, good. Now listen for, look for, actively seek some answers. Education, study, meditation, spiituality, social interaction, volunteering, helping others...

...there are many roads and combinations.

If you are a middle class American in good health, your demographic puts you in about the top 1 1/2 pecent of the world's population. If you are spiritual, give thanks and proceed from that base of operations. Same thing if you are entierly secular, but then call it being born lucky.

'Agree; most people are about as happy as they want to be.

And do you have a life-vision, a life-mission? Goals to get there? Explore some possibilities. If the first or second or third don't sound appealing, try another fifty or seven hundred.

Prayers and positive waves from metro Chicago, Nevin and all others.

So don't face the demons other than to throw them the f*** out of your life.

And make sure you tell them never, ever to come back.

And dude, 'sounds like you could use some spirituality. It's there for the asking. Just pay attention after you do....

those demons, the hell hounds on your tail, will always be there until you face and beat them nevin. dont run cause you will only end up tired as well as beat up. if you dont face them they will multiply and get stronger.
spirituallity could be a good thing, is a good thing.
at your age and ready to throw in the towel is not a good thing.
wow i wish i had a way to tell you my story.

as far as the jones and keeping up with them

nevin , you will never be happy chasing material things, you will never have enough stuff or enough money ,that's not what will make you happy ! You said your anti GOD , that's what i said along time ago too was ready to give up until , i realized that there was something bigger than me , .....GOD. Forget about religion and religious people , its about living a life with meaning, serving someone bigger than yourself. Pick up a bible and start reading , you will never be the same and you will find meaning, it happened to me !!

Well...as far as my story goes, I believe I was born to make music.
Having said that, I have two profound sentences below this post by Mr. Joseph Campbell and Mr. Jules Verne to remind me of it! Maybe you'll find it interesting.

"If you're on a path that's beaten, it's not your path." Joseph Campbell
"All that is impossible remains to be achieved." Jules Verne

And the third one...well...the third one is only half true, so...

Goran

Wow! The power of prayer compels you! All three of these things happened! (in my head)

Bah, humbucker.

As for all of those who think I am going to off myself.... I got too much to live for maaaaaaaaaan.

I for one am glad you are not feeling suicidal. I never felt suicidal either, maybe homicidal at times (lol). Take care.

Don't think so much.
Do little things that will keep you occupied and maybe even enjoy, book, movie, learn a new song, walk, cards with friends.
All work is good.
Treat your self once in a while, eg imported beer instead of domestic, a good steak, maybe a night out with a hooker at Swiss chalet for chicken and iced tea.

Nevin,

There is some wonderful advice here and lots of people who care. Glad I caught the thread. I would add that , if we are lucky in life, we come to a point at which nothing much feels right. Some of us have to go through a lot of crap. But it is a gift that forces us to look deeper. You mentioned that " when I see myself in the mirror...." Take a deep breath and ask Who is seeing who? Who is the watcher? Who is riding the "thought train". Whether or not you thing of yourself as a spiritual being or not, there are wonderful teachings and tools available, to get you past the gloom and help you find your own true nature. Then you can hardly stop smiling.

Go chase it down!

Wishing you peace
