A very wise and older friend of mine once said to me that you're only as happy as you want to be and the only one that can change it is you.I heeded his advice and left the pitbull with PMS I had lived with for 5 years a couple of days later. My life has been much better since, met my wife bought a house, got great kids, dog, cats and a housefull of music-what more could I want-except for a few more guitars and amps-seems that there's never enough of them.

Nevin they're right, you need to go find some female companionship.

You need to go out and mingle and have fun. from most of your posts you sound like you have fallen into a work, work, work rut. You just need to take some time to have fun.

trust me i work a lot too, everything seems better when you budget yourself some time to just have fun and stop worrying and focusing on negative stuff.

Nah, it's not about being single. I could care less about that. It is more about finding a use for talents (doesn't have to be guitar).

I feel like a pawn, a sheep.... a zombie most of the time. I want to do something useful... you know what I mean?

I know exactly what you mean. I feel more like that than I am happy. it's hard to find time for yourself let alone anyone else. In my job anyway. I do about 50 hours of shift work every week, so its hard to find time especially when you worry about losing your job and maybe your house as well in my case. Peace

Nevin,

I have been there. Feeling like you never accomplish anything. I have often felt like that with the last 2 jobs I had, I could have not even shown up and it wouldn't have been a big deal, it is not like I was needed there.

You just have to find what makes you happy. However small it may be. Find that reason to get up in the morning. No matter what, like watching the sunset, playing guitar, making dinner, or going to see friends, etc.

That is what the Okinawans say helps them live so long (okinawa has more people live to 100 + yrs than any other place in the world)

You need a road trip bro.....Do you like fishin? hunting? Hiking? Go sit on a river or a lake or the ocean and soak up how wonderful it is to be alive.Hike into a forest and just check out all the cool stuff and clear your mind.Just a thought dude. That's how I get inspiration.I love hiking through old growth redwood forests.Try something you normally wouldn't do.You might be surprised.
Keep your chin up bro

nevin bud, this is starting to sound like a classic case of depression bro.
snap out of it. few people really ever do end up doing what they love or like.
you better start digging in now. the longer you wait, the worse it gets,
then one day you realize your job trapped. thats where your so busy, or so tired after work, you dont know which way is up and you havent the time it takes to change your life to something new.
sure people will tell you "its never to late......" but it gets a lot damn harder. ask those you know for sure that have been there and done it.

You? full of yourself? I would have never guessed. (hope I spread the sarcasm thick enough)

You could try to a paramedic. (believe me I have seen some that barely enough brain power to breathe) Lots of driving and complaining plus medicine.

You could try being a long distance truck driver for a medical supply company.

I wasn't talking about a 'relationship' but rather blow off some steam, break out of the rut.

Maybe you need to check into ways of dealing with depression.

Nevin please listen to me for a minute. Virtual friends are cool, but sometimes it takes more than knocking words out of a keyboard to understand what it is all about. Life has no meaning, except the meaning that you put into it yourself to suit the kind of life that you want to achieve. There is no receipe, no magic stuff, no hidden reset button, nothing will happen to steer your life in the direction that you want it to take, until you my friend, decide to move on. And there is no right or wrong answers either. No wonder why it took me so long to figure out what my own life would be, I was asking others opinions instead of questionning myself. Sometimes, big changes in your life can be triggered by a crisis or an unbearable situation because we are resilient and we tend to outlive the situation we put ourselves in, thinking that somewhere along the road, things will improve by themselves, well in my own experience, they don't. If what I'm saying doesn't make sense to you, blame it on the fact that I have to stretch my brains out to translate it for you. I don't want a bad choice of words to trigger some nonsense here. If someone is going to hate me for what I'm saying to you now I don't care and here is why. In the province of Quebec, the government is undertaking measures to prevent and bring down the high rate of suicide that is going on in the medical staff. They are working too much, too hard, they don't have enough help and supervision, they take on themselve the constant pressure of beeing the only one that can make a difference and many of them have to deal with exhaustion and depression. From what I read in the replies to your topic, you gave us a little warnint tonight, you scared us Nevin. I think that you should do something about it and I am not the one that can tell you what, because I don't know you enough. What I can say to you is this, I had to deal with personal problem a few years back and I went to see a doctor, a psychologist, and a paramedical group of men helping each other through crisis. It helped, but life doesn't need to be cured, it only needs to be set on tracks and in the direction that you want it to take. Do something now Nevin. And if by any chance I took your topic the wrong way (damn translation) and there is nothing to be alarmed of, well then I present you my most sincere apologies and ask you to forgive my boldness. I wish you the best Nevin. See ya tomorrow. :)
Claude. 8)

Nevin went to a very expensive, very sought after psychiatrist, to give him a guitar lesson.

Hi Nevin,
Hope you're feeling better 8)

I think a big part of being happy in life comes from reaching out to others.

And there is apparently some scientific evidence to back up this belief...

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/199216.php

The opening line of the article reads...

"In the first study of its kind, researchers have found compelling evidence that our best and worst experiences in life are likely to involve not individual accomplishments, but interaction with other people and the fulfillment of an urge for social connection."

It can be hard to do, especially if you're feeling depressed and especially in a busy world that tends to isolate us from one another. But try to make some time for family and friends and I think you'll be amazed to see just how much else falls into place.

Good luck to you man, and hang in there! I've been where you are right now and I can tell you things DO GET BETTER...

During my chemo treatments, I met a few people with the same outlook. The docs would tell them to think positive thoughts and that any day above ground is a good day!
