Hello good people of the Fender Community, I'd like to ask if any of you guys would have an expensive guitar or bass and just leave them at home while using a cheap copy during gig.. (like I do)

In terms of live depending on situation esp gigs where people would just care to party I bring my SX P bass copy.. and just leave the Fenders at home or when recording

I don't take any good gear where there's a remote chance of it getting damaged. If it's a paying gig I have to take something that sounds good and therefore probably a bit costly but I won't let it out of my sight. With all the sticky fingered thieves out there these days looking for something to sell quick you can't afford to take your eyes off your gear for a second.

Personal preference is to use competent but not really good stuff playing in public.

Fender Standards will do it all.

I'd say play whatever sounds and plays well to you eyecandy, thats all that matters really, if you feel certain songs req'r your best gear then hire a smart but monsterous roadie to look after the gear, you never know who's watching, could be simon cowell in disguise  or fagin himself

I consider my bass to be a tool.
Why would you leave your good tools at home when going to a job?
That defeats the purpose of having a good tool.
I intend to play any bass that I buy.

My thoughts exactly. I've worked my butt off to acquire some really great instuments and I play them all on gigs. They're intended to be played. I use 'em, but don't abuse 'em!

When I was gigging we always made sure that at least one of the band members was keeping an eye on the gear.Recently the younger brother of a guy I used to jam with was playing a solo gig ,went on a break when some jerk took his case with the guitar in it,brought it outside put it on the sidewalk and stomped on it put it back in the case and sneaked it back in the club- what a psycho.Luckily the club had several security cameras outside and the idiot was quickly identified and is now awaiting a court date.Apparently the guy was ripped on ecstasy or something and didn't like the music.BTW it was a brand new Gibson J 200-what a tool-what a waste.

I have a '95 Gibson J-200 that I play on gigs from time to time. It's not my main gigging guitar, but I love to play it. I keep a close eye on it and I know there's a risk, but I'd rather take a risk every now and then than leave it at home out of fear and never play it out.

I have some expensive guitars that I take to gigs occasionally, but most of the time I play my quality but not expensive guitars at gigs. Mine are Agiles, just a little more expensive thatn the SX line. There are too many drunks and clumsy people and we don't always have a stage to seperate us from the crowd. Just about all my inexpensive guitars get modified or upgraded parts and play and sound just as good or better than the expensive instruments. This won't be a popular statement, but made in America doesn't mean what it used to, people in other parts of the world can be be just as much a craftsman as an American. I am an American and proud to be so, but I can't close my mind to think that some one from another country can't be just as proud or skilled.

When I used to gig all I had was an American Standard Tele. I used it all the time and left it on stage when during set breaks. I never had a problem. If we were doing a two nighter I'd tear down everything and take it home with me and set up again the next night. I made sure to write down all my settings first!
