Unfortunately, I have developed a horrible allergy to nickel wound strings on my electric Fender. What best options does Fender have? I would prefer a more mellow tone over a very sharp one if something in between is not available. What about coated strings?

Thanks so much for your help.

Hi llaperr, welcome to the Forum.

If you must have Fender branded strings then what about their Stainless Steel 350s?

Many other options out there for non-nickel wound strings.

BTW: nastly for you - but interesting for us! Never heard of a nickel allergy before. What will they think of next?

Good luck with it - C

Most fretwire contains nickel......this may be more problematic than you think.

Hi llaperr,

Mrs Bighair, also has a nickel allergy. After a quick chat with her she said she used to get if from a watch she used to have and off buttons found on some of her clothes.

Her top house wife tip is to coat any nickel part that comes into contact with skin in nail varnish. But she does not recommend it for guitar strings or frets. :D

Yes, I have an allergic reaction to some types of metalic jewelry but never had a problem with guitar strings either.
I presume you have spoken to a doctor about this? He might be able to put you on to some kind of specialist or have some answers, creams or tablets whatever.
Hope you find a way around this.
I'll just mention that I have all kinds of crazy allergies and when I feel something as affected my hands, I rub neat washing up liquid on them and then wash that off and that seems to ease the itch. That might help but if it does you'll need gallons of the stuff, ah well. :?
