Today marks the 44th anniversary of the Beatles final concert ever,in Candlestick Park. After that concert they decided to pack it in and become a studio group. Before anyone gets picky and writes back,I already know that the "Rooftop Concert" was technically their last public performance but Candlestick Park was the last paying regularly scheduled concert.

I was at the Candlestick Concert. I enjoyed it very much.

I spent a lot of time watching the girls charge the stage.

I was actually able to hear the music. But was still watching the girls.

I remember Ringo always looking over his shoulder, while playing, to see if any of the girls were getting too close.

Candlestick Park was the last U.S. Show.

I have it on CD.

Candlestick Park = worst venue possible for a concert

The echoes are so boomy, any sound of any kind becomes largely undiscernable. Even PA announcements at sporting events are mostly unintelligible, let alone music. This is a bit of an aside, but it is shocking to me that an NFL team still plays there as it is BY FAR the worst professional sports venue in the entire country (yeah, I know the 49ers just got voter approval for a new stadium in Santa Clara ... thank God)

Indeed.

But it was the only facility in the bay area with sufficient capacity for the expected spectator onslaught (around 30K if my memory serves me). In retrospect, I regard that concert more as an "event" than a true performance.

Haha ... I saw the Rolling Stones at Candlestick on the Tattoo You tour. I remember clearly using that word "event" to describe it when we were leaving. It is funny that you used that same word ... After that Stones show, I swore off of stadium shows forever. I kept true to that addage until about 10 years later where I saw Paul McCartney (coincindentally considering the original topic) in the UC Berkeley stadium. But for that I was second row ... what a phenomenal experience that was compared to the Stones at Candlestick.

Regardless of anything, Retroverbial, you were at one of the most famous rock concerts in history ... just behind Woodstock, the Stones at Altamont, and the Who in Cincinnatti. Very cool.

The way San Francisco (The city, not the fans) treated the 49ers......I was glad to see that they are going to leave to Santa Clara. Most of the seat paying fans are from the South Bay anyway. And their training facility is also south of San Francisco. They are going to a better place and a better stadium. I wonder if they'll change their name to the Santa Clara 49ers. Also a good thing.......they're not moving that far away (just a few miles away), and its an easy drive from anywhere in the San Francisco Bay Area. Not like they're moving to another state.
