Do it and have fun.

A Fender Standard Jazz or Precision or Epi Thunderbird are definitely worth trying.

Best of fortune.

Oh Yeah one more thing Claude,a lot of guitarist find the changeover from guitar to bass a lot easier with a slimmer neck bass such as the Jazz or Jag.

Please factor into what I am about to say, that I am at least as big of a gear snob as Nevin.

Anyway my son scored a Fender Squire P-Bass at GC for $150 bucks. It had a ding and they put new strings on it to seal the deal. The thing plays fine and sounds fine too.

If I put years into being a bassist, I would feel like I could justify a top-end instrument, but as a guitar player picking up bass; I could get by just fine with the Squire. :)

I'm thinking guys, I'm thinking. I wasn't sure about playing the bass in a guitar amp but if it is safe at low volume, then I would prefer a better instrument also. I'll take a look at basses around maybe $300.00 to $400.00. Thanks for the suggestions. :)

For that you could get a Squier Vintage Modified bass for about $300 and a Fender Rumble 15 V2 for $99. Much better that those combo paks.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. As I said, after a few weeks of toying with the idea of acquirring a bass, I was hit by the vision of a starter kit last weekend, and then again comes the insidous GAS attack. Fortunately for me, I am not an impulsive buyer. So I'm thinking it over, I'm reading your comments and I think that within a few weeks, I should come up with the right instrument for me. Thanks again for your ideas and comments, it helps.
:)
