Hiya everyone, for a few weeks now I've been playing with the idea of learning to play bass guitar. I think that at some point it is a must for a guitar player to know how to play bass also. So what do you think? I saw this stop dreaming start playing Squier kit at my local guitar store for $340.00 CAD.

So should I pass for a better gear or is it ok for someone who just want to learn? I think that the price is right and the quality is decent so, ideas, suggestions? See ya. :)

I'd aim a little higher than that, if you have fine guitars, you have to have a fine bass.Maybe classic vibe or vintage modified

Hi Claude,is that for the guitar and amp?If so I'd just go for a better quality bass guitar for now and use a regular guitar amp-low volume bass playing won't hurt your amp-as the amps in these kits are of questionable quality and the money you'd spend on the kit would be much better spent on a better guitar.Down the road you could probably pick up a good used bass amp for a song.

I'm thinking guys, I'm thinking. I wasn't sure about playing the bass in a guitar amp but if it is safe at low volume, then I would prefer a better instrument also. I'll take a look at basses around maybe $300.00 to $400.00. Thanks for the suggestions. :)

Hey Claude, Personally, I would never buy a Bass that came in a Box! You have to play it first!. You might as well give your money away, But seriously, for $300. or $400. you can find a NICE used bass, most likely an amp too. Save your money. Those Band in a box kits are for little kids at Christmastime. 8)

Hi Claude,
I always thought this Peavy was a good starter Bass
http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-Millennium-4-AC-BXP-4String-Bass?sku=511400

But if your real serious check this out :D
http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Cort-Gene-Simmons-Axe-Electric-Bass-Guitar?sku=423981

I think it comes with a make up kit!

I would go the used route on both. Later on you can always up grade one or both as needed.

Oh my GAGA, that Gene Simmons bass is a killer axe. The Millenium is really something. I'm not sure that my guitar center keeps those Peavey in store and I really like to shop at this place. We built a relationship based on trust and respect over the years and I'd prefer to go with another brand than shop elsewhere. But that beeing said, nothing is impossible. As I said, I was in the "Bass" process since a few weeks, but I looked into the producy only yesterday. So next weekend, I'm going to try seriously to find a bass for me. But I'm not in a rush so I should come with something cool in the end. Thanks for your inputs guys. :)

There's a guy here selling a mint Jaguar Bass for $700,if I had the scratch I'd buy that up in a minute, that has to be the absolute best bass around, so many tonal possibilities.

I would agree with JasonSD; the MIM Fenders are a well made bass. I've had and or played several that rivaled the MIA basses, for real!

Claude, playing bass guitar will be fun for you, as an established guitar player you can now do all of the rhythm parts you could only think about as a guitarist. You know that I have a Fender P-bass Squire series, a Squire P-bass by Fender, and, since I had to buy another one to swap necks, another Squire P-bass by Fender (with the broken neck 'til I can fix the neck). In the order listed the colors are Red, Black, Arctic White. You will be able to find a good bass guitar in your price range used but, if you like new better, a Squire can be found or perhaps a Telecaster bass, try one, they play great and have a good growl, not as much growl as a P-bass but more growl than a Jazz bass. Post pic's when you can please.

Don't overlook the Classic Vibe series and look at used stuff as well!

In the spring I went out to buy a MIM p-bass and ended up coming home with a Squire Classic Vibe 60's p-bass. To me it felt and played better.

Since then I was looking around the shops for an inexpensive practice amp when I ended up scoring a used Peavey NitroBass head (450 Watts) for 170$ with a 1 year warranty :)
Sometimes good used stuff turns up if you keep looking.
