A hybrid of molded Marmite and epoxy has always served me well; looks and smells great too!

I have Strats with both. I'm currently drawn to rosewood, but that changes periodically. If I could only choose one fretboard it would be maple, but it's nice to have choices. :)

Thanks for all the replies. I cant hear a difference between fretboards myself. I like maple because it looks good and is comfortable for me.

Probably this:
Most Strats-Maple
Some Strats-Rosewood
Teles-Rosewood
Acoustics-Rosewood

Of course, it always depends on the paintjob 8)

well Rosewood tends to have more maintenance.. esp the lemon oil, unlike maple..

but the thing is... Maple can be warm in EQ, but Rosewood can't match the brightness of the Maple when EQ'ed

I'd like to know more about this - were there any players/songs you had in mind when you wrote this (e.g. a particularly bright sound for a song that couldn't have been done on a rosewood fretboard)?
